Case exam board member killed for trying to uncover cheating

deceased

Prof Quinn of the Examination Board

principal

Morse, Lewis, Forensic Max

The background explained in the play

At a reception, Professor Quinn, wearing a hearing aid, heard an Arab say to a professor "Shouldn't my son pass?". So he suspected that Professor Bartlett was selling exam secrets and told another professor, Philip. But Philip didn't believe it.

A sack was put in the trunk of the car during a fire drill at the school. Professor Donalds came out very late to check in. Philip asks for a leave of absence.

Cinema: Height saw Bartlett come out at the door.

Train Station: Roope and Dean got out of the same car. The place where they work is the Foreign Language Examination Board.

Philip saw a bunch of keys and a movie ticket stub on the desk in Bartlett's office.

Roope entered Quinn's office and saw his coat. Came in outside the door and saw that the cabinet door was open, complaining that it would be said to do so. Roope said to put the documents on Bartlett's desk, but took the keys and ticket stubs from the desk.

The doorman saw Quinn's car drive out.

Donalds reported that Quinn died at home.

Investigation progress

The medical examiner determined that the deceased died of cyanide poisoning. The wine glass can be smelled. The time of death was a few days ago. And the deceased was wearing a hearing aid.

Morse's Theorem: There is a 50% chance that the person who finds the body is the murderer.

Donalds said that because the deceased did not go to work, his boss sent him to find out why. He saw Quinn dead inside the house from the window.

Quinn has only been on the exam board for three months. Donalds thought Quinn committed suicide, but Morse was convinced it was a murder.

Morse approached Bartlett, the head of the exam board. Bartlett explained to him the importance of the exam (the ascending passage) and the need for secrecy. Bartlett also said Quinn checked in himself at the fire drill on Friday.

Lewis approached Philip for questioning, and Philip also said that Quinn had not been seen since the fire drill.

Morse asks the female professor Height to talk. Height is similar.

Lewis asks Donalds. He said he wasn't sure he had seen Quinn on the day of the fire drill.

Morse and Lewis found in Quinn's office an encrypted letter (similar to a burqa) between his ex, Bland, and an Arab about delivering something to a hotel at a certain time.

They also learned that Quinn had taken a lip-language class.

Morse and Lewis come to Morse's house. Morse asked Lewis to pour two glasses of wine, Lewis took a sip, Morse didn't move. In this way Morse proves that Quinn was not necessarily suicidal. Because someone may have poisoned the wine, the same operation can be used to fake a suicide scene. Just wash your glass after poisoning the other party. But Lewis countered that it was unlikely to give someone else an unopened wine.

The council doorman said Quinn was seen driving away at 4.50pm. And he also mentioned that Roope also showed up that afternoon.

Morse asked where Height was Friday afternoon, and Height said he was at her house with Donalds until about four o'clock. Because the two had an extramarital affair. But Morse felt she wasn't quite telling the truth.

Morse went to the chairman of the committee and asked if there were any personnel disputes within the committee. The chairman said nothing.

Morse went to Donalds to confirm Height's claim. And Donalds wants to end his relationship with Height.

Lewis confirmed through Height's children that they were not at Height's house at the time. (Height lied).

Quinn had a movie ticket stub in his pocket. The movie "Last Tango in Paris".

The theater confirmed it was Friday's ticket. And said someone had asked the same question over the phone. A detective novelist.

Morse to Philip's house. I learned that he also likes to drink like him and like word games. But Philip writes crossword puzzles in newspapers. Philip told Morse that members of the exam board may have cheated and leaked exam questions to a few people. But Philip didn't know anyone had ever done such a thing.

Philip said he stayed from three-thirty to five on Friday afternoon.

Morse finds Roope. Roope said he made a trip to the office on Friday afternoon and returned with the documents. He also told Morse that Quinn's filing cabinet was all right that day. He hadn't seen Philip or anyone else either.

Morse found Friday's movie ticket stubs in her office before questioning Height. Height admitted that she and Donalds dated at the movie theater together.

Morse told Bartlett what he had learned. Bartlett was shocked. Bartlett's son seemed to be a little grumpy. Morse suspects Philip is cheating. Because he was eligible for a promotion but didn't get a promotion, cheated and got revenge on Bartlett. But Bartlett said Quinn had called on Thursday night accusing him of leaking secret exam questions to Arabs.

Philip died suddenly at home. Height was also taken to the hospital at his home for fainting.

Morse thinks there is more than one person who may be cheating. Maybe Quinn finds out and informs Philip, and Philip is found to be silenced when he takes action.

Lewis said, according to Moore's Law, Height may be suspect.

Philip also marked the cyanide section of a book. Lewis suspects he killed Quinn.

The medical examiner determined that Philip died from a blow to the head with a heavy object.

Lewis saw Quinn's ticket stub in Philip's notebook.

Morse found the committee chair again. He told Morse that Quinn and Philip were seen leaving together on Thursday.

(This proves that Philip does know something about what Quinn knows).

Roope said philip had gone for Indian food the night of the incident.

Height said she went to cook for Philip. Because they are friends.

Morse intercepts Donalds who came to visit Height. Donalds said it wasn't clear if Height loved him or if his wife knew. The reason he said he lied last week was because Height made him say it to avoid embarrassment.

Morse and Lewis combed through the ticket stubs and found that the ticket stub was deliberately placed in a jacket pocket. Quinn went to the cinema at all. He was probably dead by then.

Quinn's mother came to Quinn's house and pointed out that the chair was in the wrong position (it was in the air vent). The butter in his fridge was not the unsalted butter Quinn usually buys. And the original butter in the refrigerator has not been eaten yet. This means that someone is pretending that Quinn is going shopping at home.

Morse also reasoned that the alleged Quinn who was seen driving away at the gate on Friday afternoon may not have been Quinn himself.

Morse learned from Dr Philip that he had a brain tumor and would not live more than a year. But this man has a strong desire to explore.

Morse arrests Roope at Quinn's death hearing. But Roope did not admit to killing Quinn, and pretended to be Quinn to drive shopping. and ask for a lawyer. Roope said he met the chairman at the train station on Friday. This alibi makes all of Morse's inferences untenable. Roope was released.

Morse goes to the lip-language teacher to find out, and realizes that Quinn might not be able to hear the bell for the fire drill.

Lewis followed Roope and found that he had gone to meet Bartlett, but had no idea what they were talking about.

Morse went to ask Height and learned that Bartlett had left the movie theater on Friday afternoon. (Explain that Bartlett is the murderer).

At the committee meeting, Morse teased the whole thing out. and arrested Bartlett. The reason Bartlett needed the money was to see his son. Philip saw the keys and ticket stubs that Bartlett had left on the table and began investigating the truth after Quinn's death. (He is also a self-proclaimed novelist). Quinn's predecessor, Bland, will be handed over to Interpol.

end

While explaining the case to the chairman, Morse suddenly realized that Doctor Bartlett and Donald Martin looked alike, and then realized that maybe Quinn got it wrong when he read his lips (the Arabs said Donald, not Bartlett) .

He went to arrest Donald. Donald's wife admitted to helping him clean up the blood. At this time, Donald appeared and wanted to hurt Morse, but was rescued by Lewis who followed.

Bartlett was released and Mrs Bartlett explained that she had enough savings to pay for her son's treatment.

As for the movie, Bartlett explained that he watched it for a while out of curiosity, but did not expect the ticket stub to be used by Roope and Donalds as proof that Quinn was alive.

Lewis joked that Donalds should have been arrested under Morse's Law. Morse said that the real Morse law is to have a drink whenever you have time.
