modernity and cinema

A very sophisticated and interesting movie. But it shows a grand theme, how human beings face modernity.

At the beginning of the film, human beings are at a loss in the face of modernity. Probably the first half of the film shows this kind of helplessness, using a lot of vivid and delicate intentions to express this kind of helplessness and nothingness, such as the Egyptian on the glass door. For the Eiffel Tower, the heroine looked helplessly at the demise of the "classical beauty" represented by the tower, and then lived a life like a window, maybe not for life, but just a life for others to see. Also, in the business district, almost everyone lives in a homogenous way... I feel that France 60 years ago is very similar to the country now, and the auntie group of buy buy buy was born to stimulate consumption ideas of novelty goods, and a cult of brand...

Although the plot is extremely simple, this kind of ironic irony gives the movie a rare depth. At the same time, the film uses a humorous way to express this profoundness, which is very interesting, very similar to Chekhov's satire novels, coupled with the pungent satire with a sense of humor, so that such a simple plot does not appear boring.

In terms of expression, I always feel that this movie is a bit like a well-conceived drama. Use a small scene and performance to express a complex subject. For example, in the scene in the restaurant, along with the time line where the wine is in full swing, the wonderful and smooth transformation and sublimation of the theme expression is extremely rare. From the beginning only using various urban noises as the opening to express the criticism of modernity, to the subsequent use of brisk BGM to express the acceptance of modernity, it is also extremely ingenious... Although it is a film about modernity , but in the shooting technique, it has a very dramatic kind of classical beauty!

Finally, I have to say that the most moving part of this movie is that in the second half of the play, it gives a solution to modernity. In that funny restaurant, don't those well-dressed people of all shapes and sizes put aside their identities to enjoy life? Then, look at life with the eyes of discovering the beauty of life, modernity is just a means to facilitate life, and live life with the eyes of discovering beauty, Paris is still the romantic Paris!
