Anno Hideaki left the GAINAX company that once co-created splendor. After starting his own business, he dedicated this new EVA work to the world.
In fact, in terms of plot, this film is basically a remake of past works, just like "King Kong" and other films made by Americans. But in the details of the story, the director poured a lot of new ideas into it, such as the clasped hands of Shinji Ikari and Misato Katsuragi, which never appeared in the TV version and the old theater version. The subtitle You are (not) alone also subtly reveals some of the director's painstaking efforts.
