This film is adapted from Shakespeare's play "Macbeth" by a black director. It is perfectly integrated into the Japanese context, and it is not rigid at all. Unlike many movies that have been Chineseized and destroyed the original work, it seems out of place.
This is a story about people being swallowed up by their own desires and fantasies. The protagonist is a general trusted by the protagonist, but because he is bewitched by the goblin's "prophecy" and instigated by his wife, he commits murderous monarchs, killing friends, etc. behavior, and eventually all betrayed relatives were killed by their subordinates. These are all intuitive things, but should the blame really be on the goblin and the wife? They are at best catalysts, and more importantly, the desires of their own hearts. Once desire expands, reason, morality, and ethics will all be overwhelmed, and people can no longer suppress desire, so they do cruel things. And after such cruel things are done, people can't turn back, they can only bite the bullet and go to the dark, do more and more hurtful things, and eventually lead to their own demise.
When man perishes, desire naturally perishes, so desire is a very stupid thing, just like cancer cells, if the host dies, oneself as a parasite is also a dead end. Everyone hates cancer cells, but cancer cells themselves are ordinary cells of the human body, but they become cancerous later. The process by which cells become cancerous is somewhat analogous to the process of inflated desire without restraint. Man cannot live without desire, just as man cannot live without cells. Desire makes us higher, faster, stronger, and more united. Desire allows us to continue as a human being instead of sitting still and accepting death. However, if the desire is not controlled, people will still perish, and countless historical stories tell us this.
Therefore, the sages of all our human races have told our compatriots to be "quiet and far-reaching" and "do not do to others what you want to do", and we humans are indeed listening to the teachings of the sages. However, there are times when you can't control it. But, how can people be able to control it in normal times, but can't control it now? In the movie, as soon as the goblin and his wife are instigated, the man general in his 40s gives in? Don't have your own brain? We find it a little ridiculous now that the protagonist doesn't have to because his life is good enough. However, we are judging by our current state, and we are not in the Warring States Period. In the Warring States period, nothing is fixed, everything is possible, it was a troubled time. The Warring States period is a time to stand out, and it is also a time when life is precarious. It is a time of unparalleled loyalty, and it is also a time when the following commit crimes and kill each other. People don't necessarily believe in ghosts and gods in peacetime, but in troubled times, fate is unpredictable, and the cruelty of reality is enough to make people suspicious. People are no longer rational, and act with the help of the prophecies of ghosts and gods, to release the cruelty of human nature, open the cage, and the hungry wolves will bite.
To cherish life and stay away from war, for ordinary people, to be vigilant of all kinds of extreme speech and behavior, and to be more trusting and tolerant of each other, can tame people's desires and avoid falling into a doomed situation.
