As a musical with an overload of rave reviews, I didn't think I would give such a rating until I watched it.
I still remember a music class in high school. On that day, the music teacher rarely got sick, and the family was fine. He showed us a short episode of The Phantom of the Opera. I am used to listening to Jay Chou, west life, and played singles such as "think of me" and "the music of the night" on a loop for three months;
From time to time, I also play "all that jazz" from "Chicago" on my way home in a happy mood toward the sunset;
I also often listen to "Master of the House" in "Les Miserables" and wonder if one day I will sing it to my son who is not even a fertilized egg.
But "Hamilton" doesn't sound good.
That's right, this musical introduced the important history of the founding of the United States and several founding fathers through Hamilton's voice in more than two hours, and also mentioned Hamilton's great contribution to the US Constitution and the US financial system.
South African talk show actor Trevor Noah once joked under the guise of Hamilton in a performance, "Why are these constitutional amendments still there, haven't you guys written anything for more than a hundred years?"
I totally understand why this show has such accolades, because Hamilton's life is the ultimate version of the American dream. No matter what your background, no matter who you are, with your own hands and hard work, you can thrive in this free and democratic immigrant country. Playwright, director and star Lin miranda manuel herself, is a perfect example of the American Dream.
It's a pity that this drama is not good, and it is also greatly dragged down by his mediocre singing skills. As far as I can tell, the biggest highlight of the show is Jonathan Groff's George III, whose "you be back" and "What's next" to the same tune are the only tracks I'll listen to again.
Maybe from the perspective of some professional evaluations, this drama is really a good drama, but the lead actor's poor singing skills, the inexplicable rap in the drama, the faded American dream and the demented political correctness, I'm sorry I can't feel the same way .
