A Misunderstood and Ambitious Start of a Zombie Universe

The first time I watched "Legion of the Living Dead", I just thought it was a decent zombie movie. Although it is far from being as stunning as "Dawn of the Living Dead" and "I Am Legend", you and I are not qualified. All I can say is that I'm afraid your tinted glasses are too heavy. After all, the elements that a passing zombie film should have, this film does not pull a single one, and none of it pulls the crotch. Whether it's action scenes, plasma explosions, or screen explosions, they can all be said to be top-notch in the industry. At least I can't find one that is really much better than this movie.

To say that the flaw is that the plot is far from excellent, especially since this movie is still a group drama, almost all the characters are not well portrayed. The long plot in the early stage has seriously affected the rhythm of this "cool movie". The key to the previous plot is that the shaping of the characters is very superficial. It is better to concentrate on portraying only one or two main characters.

But what about zombie movies with so many perfect characterizations! I don't know about others, but the original intention of my own watching this movie was the word "cool". Overall, this movie still satisfies the needs of this part of me. Intense action scenes, thoughtful zombie content, all kinds of explosive plasma... It's still very cool.

However, I recently replayed "Legion of the Living Dead" in my spare time, and suddenly found that the first part seems to have missed a lot of content: Zach's always very stylized shots, I have always been very worthy of appreciation (of course, some are too stylized) , I can't accept it); Zach's movie seems to be very ambitious, and it seems that he didn't plan to rely on this movie to tell everything right from the beginning; some very inexplicable lines appeared abruptly, making people unclear .

But as soon as you contact this movie and the follow-up content, you will suddenly find that it is worth pondering. Obviously, Zach wants to create a zombie movie universe outside the Warner DC Cinematic Universe, the Monster Universe and the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Moreover, the idea seems to be endorsed and fully supported by Netflix.

Not to mention 580 million, that is RMB, not U.S. dollars, and the cost of 90 million U.S. dollars has not been a top-tier blockbuster in Hollywood in recent years. To give a few simple examples, the cost of "Fast and Furious 9" released in the same period is 500-800 million US dollars, "King Kong vs. Godzilla" by the old owner Warner, and "Spider-Man: The cost of "Return of Heroes" is also around 200 million US dollars, and even "I Am Legend" in 2007 has 150 million US dollars.

My point of view is: "Legion of the Living Dead" is a fairly well-established zombie film above the passing line, but if it is a work that opens the door to the zombie universe, if the follow-up works are powerful, then although there is no hope for Fengshen, reaching 8 points is not a problem. difficult.

In 2021, it will start a zombie movie universe with 90 million US dollars. As long as the layout is successful, the movie will not always be very good, and it will not be a loss-making business (refer to Warner Monster Universe). The Marvel Cinematic Universe, "Iron Man" and "The Incredible Hulk" both cost $150 million, the Warners DC Universe "Superman: Man of Steel" $225 million, and the Warner Monsters "Godzilla" $160 million.
