Laughing nun, luck will not be too bad

Important spoiler: The villain was killed more than two decades later by a licensed ghost theologian named Lorraine Warren.

Unimportant and lengthy spoilers:

The Vatican received news that a nun committed suicide in a monastery in Romania, so Father Piper went to investigate and gave him a partner-the apprentice nun Irene. The heroine's first appearance, through telling stories to children, set up a pleasing personality. "Jurassic World 2" tells us that those who like dinosaurs are not bad guys. I especially admire the heroine's tolerant attitude, willing to accept new things, and will not harm her pious beliefs.

When the two came to Romania, they first met with an eyewitness-a Fa (four tones) junior brother, referred to as Fa Xiao. He is a vegetable farmer, and when passing by the monastery, he found the body of a suicide nun. On the night of the incident, two nuns, one old and one young, went to explore a secret room on the grounds of the monastery with the words "God Stopped". The old nun was killed by the demon on the spot and gave the little nun Victoria a key before she died. Before she escaped into the empty door, the little nun had an affair with the famous dog lover Little Skinner, and was destined to die by falling from a height. When Fa Xiao found her, she was hanging outside the monastery, and the body had been decomposed.

The courageous Faxiao of Yi Gao was not scared to pee, and very kindly placed the body of Sister Victoria in the basement of the monastery. After Father Burke and Sister Irene came to the door, Fa Xiao took the two to visit the corpse, only to find that the posture of the corpse had changed. In this investigation, the three people harvested a key item-the key in the hands of the corpse. Then the three people buried the body properly. In the cemetery, many tombstones were found with bells in front of them. I learned that it was a custom that people who hadn’t died suddenly came alive and could ring the bells in the coffins to call for help. Modern people can learn from this practice and put the charged mobile phone in the coffin as a funeral.

Entering the hall of the monastery to continue the investigation, the three met a mysterious old nun. She said that the nuns were praying silently, and they could only come out to meet guests tomorrow morning and sent the three away. This kind of wearing a black burqa and covering his face tightly is generally the most suspicious, but the three of them obediently followed suit.

In the bedroom at night, Father Burke and Sister Irene mentioned their knots. Irene has yin and yang eyes and used to see illusions. Every time the illusion ends, a thought arises in her heart: Our Lady is guiding her direction. Father Burke used to perform an exorcism ceremony for a boy named Daniel, but the ceremony failed and the boy died.

In his sleep, the radio played automatically and the priest was awakened. The first time the radio appeared before, the slightly experienced audience should have seen that there is a point of shock here, as expected. Last year, I saw Qiu Litao’s comedy ghost film "Always Be Around You". I also used this kind of routine in it, but the radio was replaced with a phonograph. Of course, that movie was much shoddy on the whole.

The priest tracks the ghosts, and the sheets on the clothesline work well, but the ghosts themselves are not very scary, because the actions are too human. The movement of the ghost should either be very fast, coming and going without a trace, unexpectedly; or it should simply be like a nun in the film, slowly approaching, releasing the pressure little by little. In this section of the movie, the imp ran at almost the same speed as a normal person, and the audience thought it was a thief.

Following the ghost to the cemetery, the priest found that the ghost was Daniel, the boy he had failed to rescue. A snake was spit out from the boy's mouth. It turned out that he was a Cantonese, and it was not known whether the snake was his breakfast, lunch or dinner. The priest was attacked by a snake and fell into a coffin. The tomb was sealed instantly and he could only ring the bell to call for help.

Irene heard the bell and hurried to the cemetery to dig out the priest. If she moves a little bit slower, the priest will be touched to death by the ghost nun in the coffin. Suddenly stretched out his hands in the dark to touch his face to kill will be the scary part of the next repeated occurrence. The ghost in this film likes to touch his face even more than Brother Tom in "Mission Impossible 6".

At the same time, Fa Xiao also hit a ghost. Suddenly a nun who hung herself appeared on the tree and slammed directly at Fa Xiao. The nun riding on the face seems pretty sweet, but if it's a zombie nun, it's a different matter. Fa Xiao scrambling to free himself, picked up a cross to ward off evil spirits, and fled the scene in a hurry.

Finally until dawn, the priest and Irene went to the monastery to investigate. Irene learned the truth about the monastery from a nun. In the Middle Ages, there lived a duke who used sorcery to open the gates of hell and wanted to summon demons. In the middle of the ceremony, the Crusaders came in. The Holy See used the sacred vessel-the blood of Jesus-to seal the demons. But the artillery fire during the World War made the seal loose, and it was almost impossible to hold the devil.

After speaking about the history, the nun took Irene to sleep in a room in the monastery. This is the room where the Victorian nun who triggered the incident committed suicide. The hanging rope was still tied to the foot of the bed. Seeing this, I couldn’t help but think of the above-mentioned funny ghost movie by Qiu Litao. Inside, Ah Sa opened a hotel and everyone ran to her to commit suicide. Then there was a scene where she cried and told her fate to play tricks. But because she is too cute and the Mandarin dubbing is more subtle, it looks a bit like acting like a baby, causing the audience to burst into laughter. When I saw that there was such a suicide room in "The Nun", I couldn't help but laughed again.

The heroine obtains information through interviews, and the priest consults classics. There is a relief of a greedy snake in the monastery, which is the kind of snake biting its own tail in the legend, that is, the snake of the body in "Tracks in the Sky". This symbol also appeared in the sci-fi horror film "Annihilation" in the first half of the year. However, the snake pattern in this film seems to have two heads, which is different from what I had in mind. The priest found the snake pattern in an ancient book, and at the same time there was a snake spitting out of his mouth, which corresponded to the vision he had seen. The name of the demon appeared on the book: Valak.

The priest discovered that the masked old nun was actually a corpse, and was later killed by touching her face. At the critical moment, Fa Xiao arrived in time and headshot the female ghost. This little brother can be regarded as a headshot professional. When he was in France, he had perverted sneak into the home of his game company executive's mother and tried to commit violence, but he was blown up by him instead.

At this time, Irene woke up because of a nightmare, and the content of the dream predicted what happened next to the group. The room was haunted, so she had to ran to pray, hoping to get shelter, and there were several local nuns with her next to her. When the priest and Faxiao arrived, they found that she was the only one praying from beginning to end. In fact, the Victorian nun who jumped out of the window to hang herself was the last person living in the monastery. She chose to sacrifice herself to prevent the devil from gaining her soul and strengthening her strength. In fact, the movie has already hinted at this point-if there are other living people in the monastery, how could it be possible to let the corpse hang outside for so long.

The three decided to start a decisive battle with the demon Varak. Prior to this, the heroine Irene has to perform a regularization ceremony to get rid of the status of an intern. They followed the guidance of the Virgin, opened the concealed lock with a key, and found the blood of Jesus, the sacred object that sealed the devil back then. As a result, after entering the secret room, the three of them dispersed, Irene was led to a pentagram formation, and the ghost nun got on her body. When Irene was praying before, the devil had torn apart her clothes and left the same pentagram mark on her back, which was a pavement.

But I think this foreshadowing has not been used well. It should be explained to the audience through the lens. Irene didn't know that the scar on her back was a pentagram. After all, she couldn't see it at all. After a while, she didn't think about it anymore. This happened at that time. Then when she reached the secret altar, she showed the pentagram on her back again, resonating with the pentagram on the ground, and at the same time she saw the pattern on her back through a mirror or something similar, and she was shocked. Realizing that she was in the middle of the game: She could have eliminated the devil, but because of the mark on her back, she turned into a container chosen by the devil, so she cast herself into the net. In this way, the front and back plots are more closely connected, and the insidious and cunning attributes of the devil are also highlighted.

Fa Xiao heard Irene's cry for help, and when she rushed, she found that Irene had been possessed by a ghost nun. He wiped the blood of Jesus on Irene's face, and the ghost nun retreated. After that, Fa Xiao stayed behind and covered Irene to escape. The priest outside was besieged by a group of masked ghost nun clones, and the snake-spitting boy appeared again. This time the priest was bitten by a snake and was blinded.

The ghost nun chased it out, but was spurted to death by Irene with a mouthful of old blood. By the way, the priest should already know that the ghost nun’s real body is Varak, why not try the "your name" trick of the heroine in "Call of Souls 2".

The three triumphed, and the monastery finally found peace. But Faxiao began to show signs of inverse crosses on his body. It turns out that he is the possessed case Morris mentioned in the lecture by the hero and heroine in "Soul Recruitment 1." Before the film, he also laid the groundwork for this. He repeatedly emphasized that he is not a French, but a French-Canadian, which coincides with the introduction of him in "Call of Souls 1". The end of the film is also a perfect connection to "Call of Souls 1", but the actors of Morris in the two films are not the same person.

"Calling the Souls 1" mentioned that Morris has been abused by his father for a long time and is mentally anxious, so he is particularly vulnerable to demons. But Morris in this film looks very sunny. Its actor, Jonas Broquet, played Isabel Huppert's silly son who likes to be a father in Paul Van Hoven's "She" the previous year, with a stupid aura of his own. In this film, he has always been responsible for the atmosphere since he first met the two priests. Whether it is the awkward heroine or holding a big cross to a bar to drink, he is very happy. The description is extremely contrasting. In other words, it’s impossible to escape from the devil's mouth [BEEP] once like him. If you stomped you, it has nothing to do with childhood shadows. My personal favorite movie genre is comedy, so adding such a funny character is quite useful. But considering that this film is a rumor of the "Call of Souls" series, or part of the ""Call of Souls" universe", such a role setting is a bit contrary to harmony.

The end of the film is not only directly linked with "Soul Recruitment 1", explaining how the evil relationship between the heroine and the ghost nun came about, but also completed an ultimate reversal. This ending is very similar to another horror film "Genetic Doom" earlier this year, which also involves the summoning of demons, and it seems that the demons in the two movies are not satisfied with lodged in the female body and desire to obtain a male host. It is precisely because Varak's real goal is not the heroine, but Morris, so after controlling the heroine, he has to use her voice to call for help to attract Morris. However, in this way, there is a conflict with the true story of "Calling the Soul". After getting such a strong male body, I feel that Varak hasn't become much stronger. Later, in "Call for Souls 2", I remembered elementary school girls. So when it comes to choosing a host, does he have a spectrum?

Regardless of "Genetic Doom" or "Calling the Soul", folk houses are the main stage. The familiar breath of life enhances the audience's sense of substitution and aggravates the frightening effect. In contrast, due to too many religious elements, this film is a bit biased towards fantasy films, which are similar to "Hell Detective". Special effects and makeup are also in place, and the shock points are set in line with the routine. If you are purely pursuing sensory stimulation, then A certain degree of satisfaction can be obtained, but the aftertaste like "Genetic Doom" and "Calling the Soul" is missing.

In addition, the film also lacks the realistic care of the true story of "Calling the Souls". The common "ghost house" horror movies usually have the three elements of space, monsters, and original sin. However, in the two main stories of "Calling the Soul", the "original sin" of the owner of the haunted house is poverty. Because of poverty and unable to move to a better neighborhood, I can only endure the intrusion of evil spirits. Just like people, ghosts are bullying the good and fearing evil, bullying the soft and fearing the hard. After trying to understand this, people feel more chilling, not because of fear, but because of disappointment. "Nun" also tries to establish a connection with reality, such as mentioning that the bombing in World War II destroyed the seal to express the concept of "war releases the demons." It also hacked the country that was in the Soviet camp. But it’s too dark. Romania in the film is not like a modern poor country, but more like a country in a feudal society. Many times you mistakenly think this is an ancient costume historical film. If those Jump Scare were used more clumsily, the film would almost completely slide into the fantasy genre and become a low-profile version of "Harry Potter."

Bymon in "Genetic Doom" and Varak in this film are both members of King Solomon's 72-pillar demon. The former ranks 9th and the latter ranks 62nd. It seems that these hell demon gods, like Liangshan heroes, also like to be seated. . It is said that in the introduction of "Water Margin", it is also mentioned that Hong Taiwei released 108 demons. Along this line of thinking, we can actually consider developing the prequel to "Water Margin" to create a domestic horror movie universe. Laughing nun, luck will not be too bad

Actually 4 stars, but I want to balance it a little with 1 star~ The atmosphere is great, I really like exorcism and I am very satisfied after watching it~ Isn’t it better than hereditary bad luck?
