Your smallness is to show my power

When I watched this movie, I felt very healed. Because everyone in the film is trying their best to seek the Lord, praise the Lord, and live for the Lord. Such an environment of belief is truly enviable.

It is said that there will be no God after the millennium, but God has always been there, but we choose not to believe it. We are more willing to believe in economic development, scientific and technological progress, and knowledge to change our destiny. There are not many people around us who believe in the Lord, and those who believe in the Lord do not dare to speak up in the workplace.

Entrusting success and failure to the invisible and intangible Lord instead of yourself will make people feel that you are inexplicable, which is simply ridiculous. You can't find a place to pray, you hide in the toilet and talk to yourself, and your colleagues think that something is wrong with you. It's hard. There is an indescribable feeling of discomfort, shame and depression in my heart.

But the Lord said, "Blessed are you if people insult you, persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you because of me." I feel entrusted to the Lord, and ask Him to give me an environment where I can settle down, get along with Him intimately and feel at ease. Thanks for praising him~

In fact, this is the essence of this film. No matter the situation is good or bad, we must praise the Lord. Whether we win or lose we must praise the Lord.

All the characters in the film, after going through the process from the beginning to the end, have completely experienced the growth of their lives, and what motivates them to break through and achieve the leap is two things: praise and entrustment.

1. Although I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I am not afraid of harm, for you are with me

The protagonist of the film, Taylor, coached the high school football team for six consecutive years, with mediocre results. Parents privately instigated school leaders to kick Taylor out of the school team. He and his wife were married for four years, but he still failed to conceive and have a child, and later found out that it was his own fault.

All the problems erupted at once, bringing him to the brink of collapse. But as a Christian, Taylor honestly faced all the setbacks in his life:

In marriage, he chose to be frank with his wife, share sorrow and joy, and never give up. Unlike many modern people, who are accustomed to the logic of the consumer economy, throw them away when they are broken, and new ones are readily available anyway.

In his career, Taylor did not feel inferior to himself and feel incompetent, nor did he feel bitter towards colleagues because of the wavering. He put everything in the Lord's hands, prayed all night, turned back to the Lord, and cried out to the Lord for help with all his heart.

There is a passage in the Bible that everyone will memorize. It is Psalm 23: "Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will not fear evil, for you are with me."

Tyler was in such a desperate situation, but he chose to still love the Lord. After a sleepless night, he read psalms from the Bible in the morning light. When his wife came to him, the first thing he asked was, "If God never gave us children, would you still love him?"

The foundation of entrustment is faith in the Lord, and the foundation of faith is love for the Lord.

2. In love and faith, become one

The biggest miracle in the film is that a team that was at the bottom of the high school league competition went all the way to the top.

And this victory process begins when Taylor decides to commit the big and the small to the Lord.

Getting a team to fight for God isn't easy, but Taylor didn't give up. He targets each student in a way that is right for him, allowing him to know the power of the Lord.

For Brock, he challenged him, blindfolded him and let him climb the entire court, which strengthened everyone's confidence in him, especially Brock's own confidence in himself. A new leader has arisen.

For Matt, he persuaded him to respect his father. Because we have to respect our own authority, otherwise things will be a mess.

For David, he symbolized the biblical David to confront Goliath. David once asked his father, if God loved me, why did he make me so young. David's father said, because God wants to show his power through your smallness. Is such a weak David, Taylor accepted him into the team, and put the last chance to score in his hands.

With Taylor's efforts, the team is united. Everyone prayed before the game and thanked them after the game. Praise in good times and praise in adversity.

Taylor also made them understand one thing: the team that won the major league championship ten years ago no one remembers, but the process of how you won will become the assurance of your life.

3. We pray as if we have received

The second miracle in the film is the miracle that Taylor's wife is pregnant.

They have been married for four years and have no children. The wife has done several tests without any problems. The problem lies with the husband. They only have a 10% chance of getting pregnant, and they may never have a child of their own by relying on natural conception. They can use the method of IVF, but the cost is too expensive, and the financial conditions of the couple cannot afford it.

The wife is adamant that they should have children, and she says she often imagines or even hears children playing around in the house. She asked her husband, how could I miss people I never knew so much?

But the fact that later, almost let her collapse. But she did not complain, and did not seek a solution in her own way. She chose to remain silent, she chose to support her husband and stay by his side, praying continuously.

This kind of silent watch seems useless to non-Christians, just like Mr. Bridges, the pastor at the beginning of the film, who touches the names on the lockers of the students every morning to pray for them. It doesn't seem to be helpful, but the school's security has improved markedly over the past few years, and one day in the film, when the students came to the lawn to teach and read the Bible, they were suddenly moved by the Holy Spirit, received Jesus into their hearts.

Many times we pray and are not answered, and we desperately seek signs. But Mr. Bridges tells a good fable. Two farmers were eagerly awaiting the rain, and both were eagerly praying. But only one person starts preparing the field while praying. Who has more faith in God?

Suddenly I understood the sentence: We pray as if we have received.

Conclusion:

The whole film ends with the realization of two miracles. After experiencing this series of incredible miracles, everyone could only say, "This is impossible with humans, but with God everything is possible."

What God wants us to do is actually very simple: praise in good times, and praise in bad times. Continue to pray until you see things happen. Everything is in his hands, and the Lord is your help.

Facing the Giants quotes

  • J.T. Hawkins Jr.: You act like you gonna miss before you even kick the ball. See, we're gonna have to change your whole kicking philosophy. Now see, you kick it wide left, or wide right, but that ain't gonna get you home. The ball has got to go through the middle.

    David Childers: I know, coach.

J.T. Hawkins Jr.: No, no, no. You don't. Now what does scripture say about this? Scripture says wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction. And many that be there find it. Now to us; that's wide left, and wide right. But narrow is the gate and straight is the way that leads to life, and few that be there find it. Anybody can kick it wide left and wide right. My momma can kick it wide left and wide right. But that ain't gonna get you home. It don't have to look great. It don't have to look smooth. It can look like a dying duck. But the ball has got to go through the middle. Now David, you gonna have to choose the narrow way. Cause that's the only path where you gonna get your reward.

  • Grant Taylor: I'm a bit nervous. It's the championship. It's kind of surreal for me.

Mark Richt: Well, I can promise you. I don't care what level of ball you're coaching; it's surreal when you make it to the championship game. And Grant, I can just tell you: I'm so proud of you and what you've done. I've been reading about the team and where you've gone, and more than anything else I'm just proud of the fact that you finally learned to win the big one.

Grant Taylor: Well, we haven't played them yet.

Mark Richt: No, you won the big one when you accepted Christ. And now that you're teaching these guys and ministering to them, I think it's just fantastic.

Grant Taylor: I got it. These players got it.

Mark Richt: Well, I can promise you: win or lose this game, you guys are champions.

    Grant Taylor: I appreciate that.

Mark Richt: But while you're here, you might as well win it, eh?

Grant Taylor: I will try my best. You know, this team we're playing: they're huge, they're fast, they're strong. I just don't want my players to be afraid.

Mark Richt: Well, in God's word He said 365 different times, "Do not fear." Now if He says it that many times, you know He's serious about it, don't ya?
