Take time to watch The Conjuring 3 in a few days during the exam week, and write a short review on a whim after watching it in the early morning (slight spoilers?!
First of all, Wen Ziren's "producer" and Wen Ziren's "director" are indeed two different things... The Conjuring 3 is indeed far worse than the previous two works. It seems that I want to get out of the label of haunted house. This one has some outdoor and underground scenes. Let’s talk about the last basement chase first. I feel that the camera is a little chaotic. When Lorrine ran away in a panic, she saw the mirror image of herself. It was a big fuss, but everything in the camera was suddenly inexplicably knocked down by the villain. And in the outdoor forest, lorrine used her special ability to trace the crime scene. The surrounding was pitch black and the woods were gloomy. I was not frightened at all here, but I felt a little hopeless, I thought the ghost was about to show up.
There is also a flaw in the plot design. For the first time, the new work adopts the concept of "everything behind the scenes is caused by people". Although it is still a strange modus operandi, it is known that the culprit behind the scenes is a human being. It doesn't feel very exciting. In 1, the villain is a witch who sacrificed herself to become a ghost and brought disaster to the world. In 2, the villain was upgraded to a big boss, one of Solomon's 72 demon gods. In 3, the villain became a witch who stole forbidden techniques from her father. This gap is really big. And from the exorcism scene at the beginning of the movie, there is a scene where Lorrine sees the witch's practice through the connection, which greatly reduces the audience's fear of the "unknown".
Of course, the new film is not useless. The Warrens came to the funeral home to investigate the part that I would call the best of the whole film! The witch's manipulation of corpses by connecting with lorrine is still innovative and scary enough. At the same time, it can be seen that the special effects are being upgraded, and it is more natural. The searchlights on all sides of the prison at the end are still good in Arne’s ward. Fans, if you just want to watch a horror movie, you should still strongly recommend The Conjuring 2! The best religious horror movie in the past 10 years, or even removing the word religious theme is enough! There is no urine point in the whole process, the beginning is scary to the end!
The demon was expelled, the lover got married, and A Brand New Day (this song was really good) sounded at the end of the movie... As an old fan of Soul Conjuring Universe, why do you like this series? Not only because Director Wen can always play the old-fashioned jump scare trick, but also because the core of love and family is hidden behind every horror movie. It is not uncommon to mention love and family in horror films, but mostly in negative examples. Deformed love and broken families give birth to terrifying demons, but under Wen Dao's lens, the opposite is true.
The first part and the second part are almost the same, both mentioned the affection and love between the family members. At the end of the first part, lorrine touched the head of the possessed mother, making her recall the scene of the family reunion in the past, and finally the exorcism was successful; In the second part, in order to reassure the children, the Warrens carefully arranged to spend Christmas with their family, which is the best embodiment. The third part focuses on the love between lovers. The two emotional lines of the Arne couple and the Warren couple take care of each other. Personally, I especially like that line:
"She thought love is our weakness, it's not, it's our strength." Love is not a weakness, but an armor.
Some people may think that such a warm scene is a bit abrupt in such a hard-core horror movie, but this is the unique "human touch" that Director Wen gave the Soul Conjuring series. This concept also runs through the series, making Soul Conjuring unique.
In the face of evil, a loving call is more reliable than a prayer to God.
In the end, as a horror movie fan, I still remember that the birth of The Conjuring 1 scared me a lot. Thanks to Director Wen for letting me know that horror movies can still be made like this. I hope Director Wen and the Conjuring Universe series will get better and better. Bring more wonderful works!
