"Mediocre Hal" is a psychology film starring Jack Black. The film tells the story of the mediocre Hal having a relationship with a fat girl. It is a movie with educational psychology. In the film, the teenage Hal, before his father's deathbed, promised that his father would only date the youngest and most beautiful woman in the world.
Hor, who is 30 years old, has always adhered to this "principle", he only admires the appearance of women. Strangely, Hal discovered that only the supermodels and the nude girls in the newspaper pages are beautiful. The first requirement for him to find a woman is beauty, and Hal will not even consider pursuing girls who are slightly lacking in shape, smile, and demeanor.
So he began to perform the drama of chasing different beauties, but his appearance was mediocre, and he encountered a lot of setbacks.
He was still reluctant to go against his father's wishes after a long time, until Hal and the famous psychological show host Tony Robbins met unexpectedly, and all this changed.
Tony Robbins is a self-reliant and respected person. He was attracted by Hal's superficiality and put Hal into a state of hypnosis. In the hypnotic state, Hal saw a woman's inner beauty.
When he met Rosemary, who was a little sickly fat, Hal saw a stunning beauty. He immediately began a frantic pursuit of Rosemary. In Hal's view, Rosemary not only looks beautiful, but also has a kind heart. She always takes care of the orphans in the hospital.
My friend Maricio couldn't bear to have a girlfriend with such an unbearable appearance, and tried every means to get rid of the hypnotism used on Hal. And deceived Tony Robbins with a lie and asked him to tell the spell to break the hypnosis.
After Hal's hypnosis was lifted, his way of seeing the world returned to the way he used to be. He had to face a Rosemary who was almost unrecognizable and make a decision that would affect his life...
This psychology film has a very good creative idea: let the superficial protagonist only see the beauty of the soul of others, that is, visualize the beauty of the soul. Broadly speaking, do a small psychological experiment on millions of viewers: If there is a power that allows us to see only the essence of human beings, will the devil's figure lose its allure because of this? This story is supposed to be funny, but the strange thing is that it is just generally funny. It seems that the same joke is repeated throughout the film, that the heroine is like an elephant, and the hero is indifferent.
Sometimes, I am very jealous of the level of storytelling by foreigners. They can take a well-known simple truth into the hearts of the people, and let people see a kind of spiritual power and personality charm.
At the moment, some vulgar TV shows are vigorously exaggerating that matter can replace love and even spirit, and even more clowns are vying to show their ignorance on the show. It seems that young men and women with fashionable appearances are joining the Appearance Association more and more, but they ignore the feeling of love and even the nature of human beings. Therefore, if placed in the present, this psychology film is even more precious.

Shallow Hal quotes

  • Rosemary: I saw the way your friend Mauricio looked at me; I thought he was going to shoot me with a tranquilizer gun and tag my ear.

  • [after Mauricio broke Hal's spell]

Hal: Let me ask you something. Who is the all-time love of your life?

    Mauricio: [ponders] Wonder Woman.

Hal: Okay... let's say Wonder Woman falls in love with you. And everyone else in the world didn't find her attractive.

Mauricio: It wouldn't matter. Because I know they'd be wrong.

Hal: See! That's what I had with Rosemary! I saw a knockout, I don't care what anybody else saw!

Mauricio: You're right. I guess I really did screw you, huh?
