I knew before watching that, no matter what this reunion special is made of, I will definitely give it 5 stars, for the sake of myself, who was chasing dramas and laughing in the countless dark nights in the 618 bedroom more than 10 years ago. Friends is my inspiration for American TV series. I almost watched all 10 seasons and 236 episodes at least 2-3 times, and those classic scenes, such as the first kiss in the cafe of RR in the second season, I watched no less than 20 times.
I am very pleased that the production level of the reunion special is online, with interviews as the main axis, interspersed with classic clips, tidbits, producer interviews, re-reading of the script by the main creator, etc., and the surprise appearance of the big-name guests is even more numerous, Lady Gaga, Cara Delevingne, Justin Bieber, Gisele Bündchen, Reese Witherspoon, actors who played Janice/Richard/Gunther/Geller couple etc.
What impressed me the most was the three clips of the three heroines. First of all, it is a well-deserved news that all RR parties are very surprised and frightened. Jennifer and David talked about their relationship for the first time! It turned out that the two had a major crush on each other on the set of the first season, but they finally fell in love with each other. That sentence "it's going to be such a bummer if the first time you and I actually kiss is gonna be on national television" really melted my heart. I can totally relate to that frustrated mood and girlishness. As Courtney said, RR's first kiss was dynamite and palpable, and that magical dramatic tension really came partly from the chemistry of reality. To a certain extent, Courtney is also right. We should be thankful for this cruah that didn't end. If the two are really together, but they don't work out in the end, it will be a disaster for each other or the show.
Secondly, the screenwriter mentioned that the direction of the relationship between Monica and Chandler is actually inseparable from the enthusiastic reaction of the audience after seeing the two people in bed for the first time. The audience not only interacted with the actors present with laughter, but also participated in the "writing" of this classic drama through their reactions. The first time I saw this behind-the-scenes clip, Courtney's shy smile after the line "ok your turn" on the bed and the eagerness to explain to the audience that it was Matthew's prank really hit me. In that instant, all I could recall was how cute Monica was.
The last clip to talk about is the collaboration between Lisa and Lady Gaga. For singing smiley cat, I prefer Lisa's concert with Taylor Swift. Lisa performed Phoebe's nervousness on the spot, and constantly corrected Taylor and told her to interpret the smiley cat correctly. This time I thought it was a bad chorus, and in the last scene, when Lady Gaga said "Thank you so much for being the person for all of us on Friends that...is the different one or the one that was really herself" Lisa's reply "Thank you and thanks for carrying it along" really made me burst into tears. We need someone to create concepts, and someone to pass on and develop concepts across generations and groups of people. It is clear that Lady Gaga has contributed greatly to encouraging young people to show and maintain themselves in the new generation. In the blink of an eye for more than 10 years, I never imagined that I would change from Ross to Phoebe, and even more unexpectedly, I am sincerely happy that I have become Phoebe.
An emotional reunion special, I'm grateful that all the creators and lead actors held the utmost respect for the series and characters, and did not exploit the best Friends in my heart in a curious way of consumption. Regardless of whether there is another reunion in the future, I will be there for you. Dedicated to all the creators, and to all the friends who spent a good time watching Friends with me.
