Looking at this open ending with a good fantasy, maybe John arrived on Earth 2 and saw his wife and children alive and decided not to bother, and let go of his hatred, and went to Rhoda there, hoping that he had successfully finished reading MIT's She can go to Earth One to help herself there, maybe John will end up with Rhoda in the end.
