Compassion between strangers

As a staunch atheist, I don't pay much attention to religion, I know less, and at most I read it roughly when looking at history. So, although this movie was downloaded very early because of the high score and Hopkins, I didn't remember to look it up until yesterday when the old man got the statue again. In my concept, Christianity has always been linked to the dark Inquisition in the Middle Ages, coupled with a series of anti-human canons against homosexuality and abortion, I always feel that it is a stumbling block to the progress of human civilization. However, after watching the film, I couldn't help but look at the two Popes Benedict and Francis differently. The old Pope dared to choose dissident candidates. This is an extremely rare example in the history of human power transfer, which shows that he is not concerned about selfishness. Instead, he has the world in his heart, and what is even more commendable is that he is not greedy for power and chooses to abdicate to make more time for his successor. As a radical reformer in the church, Francis maintained a respectable respect for Pope Benedict of the Vatican on the one hand, and on the other hand, did not give up his insistence. All the above gave positive impetus, so that the congregation and the whole world felt "God loves the world". The end of the film is really a stroke of genius (although I guess it was made up by the screenwriter), two popes from Germany and Argentina watched the final of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil together, and the two old men supported their respective countries like naive children. The team that makes people can't help but sigh that the Pope is far from being high above, and he is just a shepherd of the lost lambs in the world. The film does not have too many thrilling, twists and turns, and there is no intrigue, only sympathy. A few conversations in the room have completed the inheritance of the papacy. As an ordinary audience, the most shocking thing is the acting skills of the two old men.

The Two Popes quotes

  • Pope Benedict: My doctor gave it to me. He said,You are in good shape for 86 but very bad shape for a human being. I believe this was a joke.

  • Pope Benedict: You know, there's a saying, uh, God always corrects one pope by presenting the world with another pope. I should... I'd like to see my correction.
