The family is the basic unit of society.
Getting a family and starting a business is seen as a symbol of true independence.
But more and more young people refuse to start a family.
Even if they get married, some people choose DINK.
Putting aside the notion of "raising children to guard against old age", children are an important part of a family.
But why don't young people dare to have children easily?
Don't ask, ask is just one word: poor.
The film is "Raising Arizona" released by the Coen brothers in 1987.
"Arizona" here is the name of a baby, but the story does happen in Arizona.
Why is it "Arizona"?
Arizona was the last state to join the United States. Adjacent to Mexico. There are many immigrants and very few purebred Americans.
In the 1970s, the crime rate in Phoenix, Arizona was close to the top in the United States. It was not until the 1990s that the crime rate began to decline year by year.
The opening scene is Hey in a flower shirt molesting Ed in a policewoman uniform, coupled with light-hearted whistle music, this seems to be a "romantic to prison" romance.
But the budding of love in prison has actually predicted a dangerous future.
1
When the word "Arizona" first appeared, I learned that Ed's fiance cheated and scolded the scumbag. And clamored for her fiance to go to the labor camp in Arizona to find him.
In every era, there is a group of young people facing the problem of starting a family and starting a business.
Whether it is the United States in the 1980s or China in 2020, a large number of people of the same age have set up families.
And you are still useless, not even a suitable shelter.
There is no essential difference between you wandering on the bustling streets and the labor camps where you are wandering far away.
Within five minutes of the opening, Hi has already entered and exited three times in the labor camp.
It is hard to say that this was not what he did on purpose: "I tried to be a new man, but under the Reagan administration, it was not easy."
When Hi went to jail for robbing a convenience store for the third time, he put the wedding ring on Ed's hand while recording his fingerprints.
He emphasized: He bought the ring with money.
The implication: the ring can be worn with confidence, he is absolutely responsible to Ed.
But can he really afford the responsibility of starting a family?
His love for Ed supports his life in prison.
Guess what this scene is doing?
This is Hi proposing to Ed. He even greeted the criminal on the opposite side expertly.
Hi maybe a good person. But in the days when he did not settle down, it seemed that he could never be entangled with "crimes".
How can a husband who is connected with crime be responsible to the family?
2
Ed loves children very much and is full of expectations for his arrival, but she is unable to bear children.
The concept of "nurturing" appears for the first time here:
Because of the male protagonist’s criminal experience, they cannot adopt children.
There is also a chain of contempt for adoption.
Every child who desperately needs family care is brutally divided into three, six or nine grades.
The ones I can choose for Hi and Ed are Asian, black, and congenital sick children.
They want a white boy and have to wait at least five years.
Ed has no expectations, can't work, and doesn't take care of housework anymore.
Hi is no longer happy. He even had the idea of robbery again.
Then, news appeared that the rich Arizona couple gave birth to quintuplets.
They saw hope again.
But hey still don't want to steal other people's children.
Ironically, Ed, as a policeman, insisted on stealing a child back.
She thinks that the family already has too many children, but she has nothing.
This is the same as the idea when Hi Rob convenience store: Qiu "Fu (Fuyu)".
Out of love for Ed, he still stole a child back.
In order to welcome the children, Hey entered the room first and hurriedly packed his things.
He made up the crib, hid the adult magazines, and turned on the cheap record player.
Do his best to give the child the best things.
When the child was carried in, there was a detail: Ed reminded him not to speak bad words.
Even if the children don't understand at all now, they are strict with themselves.
Hi, solemnly introduce your child to your home. When introducing the TV, he said that he only watched two hours a day, and only watched science and education films and football.
For them, with children, they really have a home.
If this is their own child, they will be one of the best parents in the world.
And they just can't have their own children.
This is the most desperate paradox. And all tragedies come from this dislocation of ideals and reality.
When Hi's two friends who escaped from prison pretended to be the police and called the door, Ed's expression was firm and Hi picked up the gun.
That means: they are willing to guard this home at all costs, even if it is a crime.
Hey wants to keep friends, but Ed refuses to take them because they are fugitives.
That night, Hi was attacked by nightmares.
A man on a motorcycle with "Mom doesn't love me" engraved on his head was filled with explosives and destroyed everything on the way.
Unfortunately, this is not a dream. This man with a keen sense of smell is a cruel bounty hunter, uninvitedly forcing the child's biological father to hire him.
He is following the child all the way.
Ed sings to a child about a child murdering a little girl.
One sentence is: "The gallows is waiting for me."
No one can predict how close the crime will be to you.
3
In order to ask how to raise children, Ed invited the richest couple they knew.
Like the rich couple, this couple also has five children. However, the child of the latter is like this:
A three or four-year-old girl, with a white cloth wrapped in her left eye, may have been blind.
A clever little boy praised by his father, full of anger, smeared curses on the wall. The illiterate foreman boasted that his son had learned the alphabet.
A boy who wet his hips with a water gun.
These children who have not yet grown up, stupid, cruel, and selfish, are all rushing toward the path of crime.
And the son of a former rich man is now in such an environment: "Dad" has been in jail many times, and his friends are fugitives; "Mom"'s only "noble" friends are a pair of strange flowers, like raising five demons. The kid who wreaked havoc everywhere.
He should have grown up healthy and happily in a wealthy family, but he fell into a crime scene. It is even conceivable that he will become a criminal in the future.
This is why, hey, even if he doesn't want to commit a crime, it's impossible.
Because the surrounding environment will force you to become that way.
To raise children, only love is far from enough.
We expect millionaires to emerge from slums and heroes from robber dens. But how likely is this?
Instead of continuously using the original clean and flawless immature life to cultivate this criminal soil, why not let it die gradually and become a desert?
In contrast, every parent sincerely puts the bargaining chip to change destiny on their children.
They look forward to miracles with the above probabilities close to zero.
Children, at certain times, are the only light of hope in the humble and gloomy lives of these parents.
The cost of raising children: vaccines, private doctors, deposit banks, dentists, university reserve funds...
Misfortune encountered: car accident, work injury, unemployment...
It's all pressed on Hi and filled his brain, making him unable to breathe or think.
He decided to return to his old business to make a living. When buying diapers, he robbed the convenience store.
Ed drove away angrily.
He was hunted down by the police and the clerk with guns.
Accompanied by dreamy to a bit funny music, he ran wildly in the rain of bullets.
It's like every adult who runs away in the cracks of survival.
Hey doesn't want to be a businessman in a suit and leather shoes, and his friends think that he is still young and does not need to live a routine life.
They think he should go to rob the bank and rob him until he is old or caught.
In order to escape the responsibility of supporting the family, they would rather be a criminal.
The friends accidentally knew that the child was stolen and prepared to take it to get the bonus. He was seriously injured by them.
At this point, Hi finally recognized the true face of "friend" and decided to change his mind and be a good husband and father.
He and Ed decided to take the child back.
In the process of recovering the child, Ed gradually realized that they thought they were doing the right thing, but it was not.
Their act of stealing children is no different from those two fugitives.
When the young couple, after nine deaths, finally rescued the child from the bounty hunter, they chose to return the child to his biological parents.
Hey seems to have seen the child he selected from the quintuplets, the child who had experienced life and death with him.
I saw him grow up positively and happily all the way until he stood at the graduation ceremony of a prestigious school.
When you decide to have a child, don't just look at it.
Think about what you can give him at every stage from his birth to his graduation from college.
What kind of future do you expect him to have, and what you can give him after all.
Don't be blindly optimistic about your child's future, and don't underestimate your resistance to your child's future.
