Another classic that I want to go back and read the original after watching the movie.

Today I watched the movie "Tess", the 1979 version, adapted from the novel "Tess of the Birds" by Thomas Hardy. I feel that the original book will have more inner monologues, and the movie mainly highlights the love tragedy.

Tess's tragic life can be seen as a process in which she was gradually abandoned.

Her parents were unreliable and asked her to visit relatives. As a result, she was tricked by her fake cousin to become pregnant and have a child, but unfortunately the child died prematurely. She went to the priest, hoping that the priest would hold a Christian funeral for the child, but the priest did not agree. It was the first time she was abandoned, she was abandoned by her own beliefs. The director took this brief passage, but it did not affect the audience's experience of Tess's pain and bitterness. The father always considered her to be a shame in the family and did not let the priest enter the door to baptize the child, so that Tess baptized the child at home. The priest verbally admitted that the child was baptized, but still refused to hold the funeral ceremony. The God she trusted did not accept the child, and her child could not go to heaven.

She later became a milkmaid and met Angel in the factory, the charming man who made her out of her body. At one point she hesitated to marry him and tell him about her misfortune. After several struggles, she agreed to get married, but then her confession was exchanged for Angel's indifference and departure, and she was abandoned by love. It was difficult for her to understand that she could accept Angel's confession immediately, but Angel couldn't accept hers. Men who have sex before marriage can be easily forgiven, women cannot. She was seen as frivolous, indiscreet and shameless, even if she was violated when she was ignorant, even if she was the victim.

After Angel left, she suffered even more. In addition to the death of her father, she had to take on the responsibility of the eldest daughter and take care of the family. She never received a reply from Angel. In the end, she had nowhere to go and was forced to become a fake watch. Brother's mistress. This choice resulted in better living conditions for her mother and younger siblings, even though she remained unhappy. Until one day, Angel came to his senses and returned to England from Brazil, and found her after many twists and turns. She drives away Angel, only to find that she still loves him. Heartbroken, Tess, fed up with the fake cousin's tricks, kills him and runs away with Angel. They were later arrested at Stonehenge, after which she was hanged. This is her being abandoned by society. She also struggled hard and never gave up on her hard work to make a living, but until she found that no matter how she struggled, poverty and ridicule never let her go.
