Film Review 1 Kindness and truth meet, justice and bliss kiss

A movie that I wanted to watch a second time immediately after watching it once, but I watched it three times and watched many details repeatedly. I went for a high-scoring food movie, but I didn't expect any surprises.

Let's start with Lorens, a young man who became a general.

The beauty of the priest's daughter made him want to leave all company with her;

But he left, because he could not get it, and because he did not want to live an ascetic life;

The desire for love has no difference in values, but the attachment of desire, there is.

The Puritans, in his eyes, were people with depression.

Without love, he chose the other extreme, not looking back, but looking forward, only thinking about the future.

Years later he was a general and had everything he ever wanted, but before he went to reunite with the priest's daughter, he felt utterly empty.

He looked at the chair where he once sat full of dreams and ambitions, and asked, "Why is all this? You are going to prove it all worth it tonight."

Did he prove it?

He gave an impromptu speech at the Babette feast:

"Grace and truth have met

Righteousness and bliss will also kiss each other

People are weak and short-sighted

Believe in life you have to choose

and shudder at the risk taken

We all know what fear feels like

but not

Our choices don't matter

at some point

when you open your eyes

will eventually realize

infinite kindness

We just have to wait with confidence

accept with gratitude

Kindness has no strings attached

everything we choose

have been given to us

with everything we reject

has also given us

Yes we even got back what we rejected

For mercy and truth meet

Righteousness and bliss kiss each other"

Did the other guests understand?

It doesn't matter, he didn't say this to them either,

It's for my former self and my present self.

But the important thing is, do you understand what you are in front of the screen?

He proved it, just not necessarily in the way he envisioned.

The changes in his pre-dinner and post-meal meals are related to the transition described in Papin's letter:

"For thirty-five years

I'm sad that the Grand Opera has missed your wonderful voice

When I think of your noble image

As if surrounded by a group of happy children

and myself

just a forgotten audience

Just a lonely old man

I think the life you choose is better

How to get famous

Everyone goes to the grave

but when I write these

I feel that the grave is not the end of life

I will hear you sing again in heaven

where you will become a great artist

God's favor

How will you captivate those angels"

Before the general went to dinner, he probably thought he would see a group of "depressed" patients eating dinner without salt, and the beauty was no longer there. Unexpectedly, he tasted the best food and saw the beauty still. He was transparent in an instant! That's why he said goodbye:

"I'm with you every day of my life

Every day from now on is a gift from God to me

I'll have dinner with you every night

Not my insignificant body

but my heart

Because from tonight I know

Everything is possible"

We have faced many difficult choices in our lives.

Maybe it's not that difficult.

Because what has been rejected will, at some point, be given to us.

Or maybe you believe in the afterlife, in the kingdom of heaven.

  • Young Lt. Lorens Löwenhielm: I am going away forever - and I shall never, never see you again. For I have learned here that life is hard and cruel and that in this world there are things that are - impossible.

  • Swedish Lieutenant: Lorens, how can a lieutenant of the Hussars let himself be defeated and disarmed by...

Young Lt. Lorens Löwenhielm: By some long-faced sectarians who can't even afford salt for their soup? I can't forget the image of that lovely maiden.

Swedish Lieutenant: You're a dreamer, Lorens.

Young Lt. Lorens Löwenhielm: But I'd prefer to be like you. I will forget all that happened on the west coast. From now I shall look forward, not backward. I will think of nothing buy my career and someday I will cut a brilliant figure in the great, wide world.
