Paper Man was never a flashpoint used to please moviegoers

After the game "Love and Producer" exploded in 2017, falling in love with paper people became a trend at that time. Up to now, the public's love for paper people is still very high! Especially when the familiar paper people are transformed into anime characters and related products, their popularity is also quite high!

But when the Paper Man walked into the movie, which is what we commonly call a three-dimensional movie, a two-dimensional character appeared. Movies in this situation, if not in the case of super high-level special effects, are very inconsistent and uncomfortable. And especially when this paper man walked into the movie under the propaganda of selling feelings, yes, it was the live-action version of "Tom and Jerry".

Whether it's "Soul of Chess", or "Prince of Tennis", "Gintama", "Rurouni Kenshin" a long time ago, or even those heroes of the Marvel universe, these comic works are all based on real people. In terms of the plot, the original comic content is the core of the adaptation and re-creation. Even if the protagonist is non-human, the special effects will not violate the harmony.

But in the live-action version of Tom and Jerry, the two protagonists Tom and Jerry, including all the animals in it, appear in two dimensions. First of all, it is easy to cause discomfort in the visual effect. If it is done with 3D effects, it is easy to accept the plot visually, such as the 3D of "Pokémon", the 3D of "Avatar", the dialogue and actions between the plot characters and the 3D modeled characters, and the viewing effect is not good. It will be abrupt, and it will appear natural.

Second is the plot. The "Tom and Jerry" we watched as a child was performed in the form of a silent film, without verbal communication, in the form of action + sound effects, and then the sound slowly appeared. However, its plot is a nonsensical mode without too much arrangement and design. The interaction between characters and the development of the plot are purely in the form of "fights". This happens to be used by young children as well as overworked adults as a form of relaxation and stress relief. In contrast to the live-action version of "Tom and Jerry", its plot design has already appeared to be out of the original flavor of "Tom and Jerry".

Not only cats, mice, and dogs collectively became tool people, serving human roles. In the whole movie, the paper people (animals) and the real people do not form a whole in one movie, but have a sense of separation from watching two movies, and the two are just pieced together. The story line of the whole movie is actually the story of the dream after the imposter girl Kayla becomes a hotel employee, and the "fight" between Tom and Jerry is purely a fight, and has no effect on the plot of the real heroine. Suppose we delete the animal characters in the whole play, this will not affect the plot development of the film. So, what are cats and mice for?

As our childhood memories, this live-action "Tom and Jerry" movie that sells feelings can only be regarded as a failure at the beginning of this year. Paper people have never been used to please movie audiences. In the design between three-dimensional and two-dimensional, directors and screenwriters should have more thoughts and arrangements of their own.

In addition, this article once again cherishes the memory of Gene Deitch, the animation author of "Tom and Jerry", the great author who passed away on April 16, 2020. He gave us a happy childhood memory!

Real Estate Rat: Oh, we've been at this all day, buddy, I get it. Those other spots didn't float your boat, but wait until you see this next place. It screams mouse house. Wait, can I say that? Is that copyrighted? Heh. There we go.

[pulls a switch, but the elevator doesn't work]

Real Estate Rat: Whoops. Sorry about that. The elevator's being, uh, repaired.

  • Terence: Okay. I need you to understand the sensitivity of this matter.

    Kayla: Yes

Terence: If a picture of this mouse is tweeted up to insta-book-face or the ticky-tock,we will be ruined.
