I was really moved when I watched "Drunken Country Ballads".
The movie is about Llewyn Davis' pursuit of music, which ultimately fails, and that's it. Loved the calmness and restraint, no preaching, no judgment, no uplifting stuff. You can see his embarrassed life as an irony, but the way he plays is hard to tell.
Llewyn and her sister have a conversation:
Joy: What if the music stopped?
Llewyn Davis: What? Quit? Just exist?
Later Llewyn said he was quitting the business and going back to being a sailor. Like he said, just exist.
As a worldly underdog, the difference between me and Llewyn Davis is that he does have some talent, but his talent is not recognized by the market. And I was simply pretentious.
My favorite is the Hang Me, Oh Hang me at the beginning and end. Llewyn plucked the guitar strings and sang "Hang me, oh hang me, and I'll be dead and gone...poor boy, I've been all around this world..." as if surrendering to fate, hang me, I I don't care, but I feel a little unwilling. After all, I have traveled everywhere.
