The film reminded me of the deepest feeling in 2007's "Juno": she was not defeated by public opinion, she was abandoned by relatives, friends and school, she could have a choice. Students who study in North America and Europe have a better understanding of it. This is different from the "one slip into an eternal hatred" that we talked about since childhood. In a boarding high school near my grandmother’s house, boys and girls were found to be living together and immediately expelled; there was also my middle school dean who stated in the school broadcast that boys and girls were not allowed to hold hands. Avoiding possible problems in the cradle is similar to not losing at the starting line.
The guiding education that should be done is necessary, but there is never a 100% guarantee that no one will make mistakes. An important function of society is to deal with situations, to minimize harm, to protect as many physically and mentally injured persons as possible, to counsel them and to provide them with practical and effective assistance, without further woes.
In the film "Never, Rarely, Sometimes, Always", the girl can find a formal institution for help, and the social workers are warm and pay attention to protecting her privacy, so that she can slowly calm down her emotions and prevent worse results from happening. The film presents many social, family and gender issues: how to refuse harassment and protect herself from physical assault; how to face the physical and mental impact of abortion; how parents and children should communicate, etc. thoughtful.
