The first time I saw Mizoguchi's film, my understanding of him was limited to realism, a one-shot, long-shot female film. In fact, this film didn't tell a big story. It was just two families in troubled times, one man dreaming and the other making money. A strong, capable, gentle and virtuous, without exception, they seem so insignificant in a troubled world! In the final ending, a man becomes a stable woman, a man who is dead and a living man lives well and maturely for the sacrifice of women in the ideal of the film. In addition to the four men and women, there is also a female ghost, which is sad and pathetic! Even to death, he is still shrouded in the haze of patriarchy! The love I thought I got was not based on the lies that men betrayed! What is the difference between humans and ghosts? From the beginning to the end, women are shining, hard-working, and sacrificed. They don’t talk about men. The most touching thing is the last few scenes. The husband’s Huang Liang Yimeng and his wife left after all. When I send it back to my father, I have to watch her husband live and work well so that she can feel at ease! At what point in her life has she ever thought of a single cent for herself! If you think that this is a movie criticizing the absurdity of war and the impermanence of chaotic times, then I really disagree! No matter in which era the history is all around us, there are still too many women who have not belonged to themselves since birth.
