Whether you're Catholic or not, this is a good movie to watch.
The true story told in this film has three historical firsts:
1) Pope Benedict XVI was the first pope to abdicate voluntarily in 600 years.
2) Francis is the first pope from outside Europe since the 8th century.
3) The transfer of power between the two popes has produced changes that have not been seen in Catholic history for hundreds of years.
These two popes are very interesting, one is conservative and the other is trying to reform. However, although these two people with tit-for-tat views clashed fiercely in the debate, you did not see that kind of enemy-like hostility at all. Instead, they were calm like brothers. The conservative Benedict XVI seems to be deliberately trying to give way to the aggressive Francis.
At the beginning of the film, the operator of the airline did not believe that it was the Pope himself who called to book the ticket, and hung up the phone because he thought it was a joke.
The film ends with the two popes watching the World Cup final between Germany and Argentina together. And the two popes happen to be one German and one Argentine.
The wonderful performance of the two actors has been nominated for the 2020 Golden Globe and Oscar for Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor. And nominations for Best Picture, Best Screenplay, Best Adapted Screenplay.
