Arizona Dream after reading it, I was a little confused and thought about it after reading it and gave it a 6 (0.5 is Depp's face score)
I dare not say that I understand it, or I can even say that I don’t understand it. At most, I can only say that I have seen some and felt some:
1. Saw the American Dream. At least his friends and uncles are typical, but there is the American dream in the story, and it is out of place, such as the year when Cadillac was hot; for example, the heyday of American cinema was not at that time. And the years are also deliberately emphasized a few times, so it's a shattered American dream too.
2. I saw love. Whether it started because of his temperament or his buttocks, he could talk to her and friends for her, he could have only her in his eyes at the dining table, he could ignore everyone's objections, keep people and hearts by her side, and accompany her to complete the day dream. ps: If the movie is divided into five parts, I like the part 2/5~3/5 the most. In the back, I also saw the entanglement, helplessness, confusion and sacrifice of love.
3. Saw the overlap. This is a Zhuang Zhou dream of a butterfly composed of an Eskimo dream and an Arizona dream, and the butterfly dream of Zhuang Zhou, both real and fantasy. It is also because of this overlap that the entire movie has become a dream, and all those unreasonable things have become reasonable because they are dreams.
4. Feel the envy. His best friend always pretends to be a certain kind of person, brags about himself in front of others, even shows off his tricks in public, looks funny and pathetic, but in fact he just imitates him because he wants to be that kind of person These ridiculous behaviors; the daughter's initial offensive was not because of love, excluding neurotic factors, but more of envy, envious of her mother's age, and has always had a 30-year-old lover, this time it is still two chasers, she has Tried to attract one, but failed. (Of course not just because of envy)
5. Feel the courage. Most of what he said above, he made a series of actions towards love, which in my opinion was brave, including that he had a relationship with his daughter later. But in addition to love, his friends have also made me feel courageous, whether it is to face my dreams or to be grandstanding, in my opinion, these all require courage.
6. Feeling positive and hopeless. Among the five main people, he, his uncle, his friend, and the old woman, most of the time they are positive in the face of dreams, death and other issues, they will work hard for their dreams, and they will face death to add meaning to life; Only the girl is desperate. Her past has her pessimistic reasons. Maybe she has thought about suicide before, but most of the time she just talks about threatening her stepmother, but after experiencing love with him, she feels that hope should be rekindled. Instead, she decided that she was the one who was out of place, and finally chose to die.
I also saw and felt some, such as humor, romance and so on. But I don't understand it, because more of it is not understood:
1. At the beginning of the dream, I didn't understand the specific meaning of the ice field, the Eskimo, falling into the glacier, and letting the child have sex. What is the mapping for later films?
2. In my opinion, balloons are two dreams, or the connection between dreams and reality. Maybe it can be understood that dreams are like balloons, they can float all the time, but they are also easy to break when touched? I still don't quite understand the movement of the balloon, and its meaning.
3. How did the old woman fall in love with him? Just because of that story? I didn't get the attraction of the story to her, let alone the emotional transition between the two. The same problem also lies in the line of young women. From the beginning, she was not very interested in him, why was it so deep later? Just because you played a game of death, faced death and redeemed your soul?
4. I don't understand why these people should be set as both parents, or stepparents, or uncles brought up, etc. I don't feel much necessity. And the direction of the plot later, I don't feel that it is closely related to their backstory.
5. Jumping out to the director and script, I may still be too superficial to understand a lot of camera language; I can also understand the unrestrained plot, but except for the occasional hanging for fun, there are many other places where magic is handled. , I still can't find the meaning, in fact, including some non-magical places, such as the final self-break, I don't particularly understand the necessity of its existence.
I read a lot of film reviews and analysis, and I thought about it again in response to the plot, but I still felt very rigid, a kind of forced interpretation, and over-analyzed feeling, and none of the film reviews made me feel convincing enough.
To sum up, I forcibly interpret it as a dream, then there is no problem. But if it's not all a dream, it may be that I don't know enough about Sturrikuka's style, and I can't understand the connotation of his thoughts. From what I've seen and felt so far, I feel that form is greater than content, and my imagination disrupts the transmission of ideas.
