Almost every scene and every dialogue in the film is a sharp indictment of the war, and the black-and-white pictures can even render this anti-war complex. It can be said to be the most thorough anti-war film in film history. So that future generations can only pay tribute. Even Kubrick's "Full Metal Jacket" pays homage to the inhuman military training with more comedic smears for strong contrast.
Who killed the soldier Paul at the end, is it war? Is it your own kindness? Or the butterfly? Who can say clearly, because war and history are inherently confused.
