The famous detective Hercules and his friend and the chairman of the train, Bianchi, took a train to the East. The passenger on the train, Ratchett, intends to entrust him to protect herself after the well-known detective Hercules is also in the car, but the latter refuses. In the middle of the night, Hercules heard a noise coming from the carriage. He opened the carriage door and took a look. A lady in a bathrobe passed by, and then everything was calm. The next morning, Ratchett was found dead in the car with 12 stab wounds of varying depths. Hercules asked Bianchi to collect the passports of all the people in the soft seat, and questioned them one by one to investigate the real culprit. When investigating Ratchett's identity, it was discovered that he was the main culprit who kidnapped the youngest daughter of the Armstrong family, Daisy 5 years ago. This kidnapping case shocked the world. The kidnappers tore up the ticket after receiving the ransom. The incident affected many people. Daisy's mother was frightened and had a difficult childbirth. When he died, Colonel Armstrong committed suicide because of his grief, and the maid also committed suicide because he questioned the connection with the kidnapping to prove his innocence, resulting in the death of 5 people before and after. During the cross-examination process, Hercules found that everyone in the carriage had lied to him, he routinely made confessions from passengers, and carefully found that they were all related to the Armstrong family. After the investigation, the motives of each person were discovered, and then it was concluded that the person who investigated was the murderer. Some are Mrs. Armstrong's mother, sister, brother-in-law, godmother, driver, godmother's maid, maid's lover (the police), the colonel's friendliness, the housekeeper, and the young man concerned by Mrs. Armstrong. The mother of Mrs Armstrong, the architect of the murder, is getting justice one by one after Ratchett drank a drug. Hercules and Bianchi are sensible people, leaning towards the first theory that the killer escaped while the train was in the snow. Passengers breathed a sigh of relief. The movie ends here.

Motivation is an important means for detectives to find out the truth. The first step is to preserve the scene of the crime, and obtain the method of death and the time of death. The second step is to investigate the identity of the victim and the identity of the person involved in the case. The third step is to collect evidence. The fourth step is to discover the motive for committing the crime. The fifth step, reasonable inference, closing arguments.

It doesn't seem to be scary now, and the reasoning process doesn't give people a sense of sudden realization. But the shadow of childhood is not so easy to overcome... I really got goosebumps when I saw it at the end... I was definitely scared when I was young...

I don’t like Albert Finney’s interpretation of Poirot very much. I have no love for the performances of several other big names. The 12 people in the original work should be a whole, not an acting contest. The 2001 and 2010 versions are more successful than this one. .

Murder on the Orient Express quotes

  • Hercule Poirot: The obvious implication is that the murderer, disguised as a conductor, boarded the train at Belgrade, made his way by means of the convenient passkey to Ratchett's compartment, stabbed him to death, planted the dagger and the uniform, and then departed, since the train was now halted in a snowdrift. Who was he? I am inclined to agree with Mr Foscarelli, who believes that he was a rival member of the Mafia, exacting private vengeance for a vendetta whose precise nature the Yugoslav police will undoubtedly identify.

Dr. Constantine: But... is that all?

Hercule Poirot: No. No, no, no, no. No, it is not. I said, here is the simple answer. There is also a more... complex one. But remember my first solution when I... when you've heard my second.

  • Greta Ohlsson: I was born backwards. That is why I work in Africa as missionary, teaching little brown babies more backwards than myself.
