#Malcolm & Marie# (Malcolm & Marie) (B+) Watching two people quarrel for two hours is really heart-wrenching. So sexy! But this film just proves this truth: even if two people call again, they will be disinterested by mutual complaints and accusations.

When you know that this movie has only one couple and the story only takes place in one house, you might think it's going to go in either direction: either they'll have a passion scene, or they'll have a fight scene. But this movie does not want to satisfy the audience's sensual expectations. It does use close-up shots to show the intimacy of the two people many times, and makes full use of Zendaya's hot body to tease the audience's curiosity, and even has a bright The kitchen knife appeared to scare the audience. But in the end, it describes something more realistic and cruel: two very arrogant people with both mental problems, constantly blaming and hurting each other, saying regrettable words in anger, and having no solution at all contradictory approach. What's more a headache than this?

The male protagonist is Malcolm, a young and arrogant filmmaker who has just made a director. After the premiere of his debut work, although the response was good, when he returned home, his girlfriend Marie was unhappy. As the two quarreled, we gradually learned that it was because Malcolm used his girlfriend's experience as inspiration to create this movie, and his girlfriend was obviously an actor, but she was not chosen as the heroine, not even at the premiere. Thank her. Girlfriend feels used and ignored. Although the man apologized, he was still brooding about his girlfriend's past drug use, and he didn't like to let go of his arrogance. He always looked down on her and accused her of not making progress.

Watching this movie is like eating a five-course meal. The appetizers are quite tempting, and then gradually become unbearable, but I can't help watching it because I always look forward to some surprises at the end. Unfortunately, In the end, I was only exhausted, and I didn't eat anything, only a stomach full of anger.

These two are indeed attracted to each other. Many times, I feel that they are going to dry up firewood and fire to quell their anger, but after every foreplay, there is always one who wants to go to the bathroom or smoke. A round of language hurt [Yunbei] just like this, from the kitchen to the backyard, from the bathroom to the living room, then from the living room to the bedroom, and finally back to the backyard. . .

Many couples and couples know that they may say a lot of angry words that are not sincere due to emotional arousal during a quarrel, and even deliberately say some words to stimulate and attack each other, but the original problem is not solved, and the wound can only be further expanded. The film hopes to present this real-life headache and uncontrollable emotional quarrel, but sometimes it goes too far and the audience can't stand it.

The lines in this film are really long and long, and many quarrel scenes are one shot to the end, which is a big challenge for the two actors, and they really show their acting skills. John David Washington speaks 50 times as much in this film as he does in Tenet, often without gasping for breath, inheriting his dad's acting skills, again surprising his potential. It's just that most of these lines are complaints and accusations against others, plus swear words, which makes it difficult to find bright spots except for irritability.

Relatively speaking, Zendaya's character can calm down his emotions, but he can't stop talking. It really shows the mistake that most women often make when quarreling with couples: they don't speak straight, they always think that the other party can guess, but He was even more angry because the other party couldn't guess. It was not until the fifth round of the quarrel that the man realized the root cause of the quarrel in the past two hours. Zendaya is a perfect stunner with no dead ends in 360 degrees in front of the camera, but at the same time, his ability to control his lines is also impressive.

Interestingly, most couples or couples quarrel because of money, which is not the case in this film, but it is obvious that the two people are inappropriate personalities. The two artists with arrogant and difficult personalities both hope that their talents will be appreciated and valued by the other, but the audience can clearly see from their dialogue that they are more concerned about themselves.

Life is already very hard, no matter how attractive the person you are looking for, if you have to fight every day, it is not worth wasting your time.

Putting aside the problems between the two, there are indeed two sharp points in the film. One is that the male protagonist complains that white film critics always talk about race when evaluating the works of African American filmmakers, but African American filmmakers prefer that their works be treated equally and can see content beyond the racial dimension. This kind of problem exists, perhaps because of the use of black and white in this film, people don't pay attention to the skin color of the two actors, but the problem of the characters themselves. It's the same for two actors who are white or of any color because it's about the artist's ego and bigotry, and poor communication, not race.

On the other hand, the male protagonist complained that a female film critic accused him of unnecessary nudity in the film, and he was angry about it, and criticized the female film critic for not knowing anything, saying it was the artist's personal choice. But his girlfriend agreed with the female film critic, and also felt that nudity scenes were unnecessary. If it was a female director, she would have more experience with the thoughts of female audiences and actresses. This is also one of the debates that often occurs in the film and television industry. Many male filmmakers, because of their arrogance, only see their "personal choice" but often ignore the feelings of the audience and actors and whether it is really necessary for storytelling.

In fact, this is why there is no sex scene from the beginning to the end of the film. Because we know that in real life, if a relationship cannot go on, even after a few passionate make-up sex, it will eventually lead to a breakup.

What's more, Zendaya doesn't need to be naked to still be very sexy in the film. Indeed, anyone who sees it will envy her figure.

  • [Marie walks into the room with a knife]

Malcolm: Marie, what are you doing? Put the knife down, please. Marie?

[she kneels down in front of him and plays with the knife]

Marie: Do you remember those antidepressants I was on? I'm not on them anymore. I'm not doing well. I'm really, really not doing well. I've never been clean. And I don't plan on getting clean. I'm a piece of shit. I'm a liar. I cheated on you. I fucked your friends

    [she laughs]

Marie: I fucked your friends. God, I feel like I'm crazy. I've stolen from your mother. And you know what the fucked up thing is? I don't even care. I don't mind. Because I deserve it. Tell me where the fucking pills are. Tell me where the pills are.

[Malcolm struggles to answer, Marie puts the knife down and acts like herself again]

    Malcolm: What do you mean?

Marie: Just don't believe the hype, Malcolm. And don't push away the people who ground you.
