It's still an anti-war theme, but there's no gunshots or bloodshed in the film. What we see is the wonderland of the Austrian countryside, where there are people with true hearts, Franz, who loves his family deeply and can go back to his life if he nods, but he insists on doing what he thinks is right. Without the last visit from his wife, without the last support from his wife, maybe he wouldn't have persevered. Although he knew the result, his departure would bring great pain to his family and his mother, but he also knew that when the news of his death reached his hometown and when the church bells rang for him, those who had spoken badly to him and his wife Those who face him will take off their hats to salute him. Franz might just be an ordinary person, and he was shaking before the execution, but he persevered to the end. Heroes are often ordinary people who are not well known.
The photography of the whole film is remarkable, with close-up wide-angle shaking close-ups, which vividly express the characters' suppressed emotions. A lot of narration moved me in front of the screen.
