What's Missing?

The combination of Van Sant and Du Kefeng seems to be really exciting and not in vain.
Paranoid Park, which is still calm on the surface, secretly has its vastness out of control. The opening title is like the soundtrack of an old black and white film, followed by the French ambient music for the skateboarders, and finally the warm singing voice of the late musician Elliot Smith. This weight is not as high as the once pale and wound song to Alice.
Maybe just what I saw. Paranoid Park, like its predecessor, which inevitably has to be compared, sees people exhausted. It's just no longer precise and sharp, it's out of focus.
Instead of [the elephant] ignoring the premise, the story tries to hint us at some of the reasons for the tragedy. (The occurrence of the tragedy can be said to be an accident, and the tragedy here is the escape from the deeper and deeper.) Broken family, confusion and indifference to the so-called "big event", a "skateboard gang" that seems to be out of reality. Psychedelic Park probably has its extended meaning under a chaotic pattern.
Several children in [Elephant] who have no acting experience are eye-catching. Alex, who is the leader in [the park], should be said to be impeccable, but in my eyes, he is constantly formatted by some people headed by that blond girl.
Seeing the soothing ending, the guilty child closed his eyes as if he had escaped the world. Everything is handed over to the psychedelic world of skateboarding, and it ends easily. This time, Van Sant is still unwilling to give us a story in the order of cause and effect, but I would rather he put it aside and tell us this story well.

Paranoid Park quotes

  • Alex: I just feel like there's something outside of normal life. Outside of teachers, breakups, girlfriends. Like, right out there, like outside - there's like different levels of... stuff.

  • Jared: Dude, we should go check out Paranoid Park.

Alex: Dude, I don't think I'm ready for Paranoid Park.

Jared: Yeah, but no one's ever really ready for Paranoid Park.
