"Nowhere" has been marked with "want to watch" since the trailer began, so as to be able to see Mrs. Cohen. After reading it, I felt that it would be too superficial if I only saw some things about Mrs. Kern, so I dared to write a fourth long review. Nonsense, please bear with me).
The piano sound interspersed in it is still echoing in my mind now, deep but dull, I feel that this is indeed a masterpiece of "Fern" style. Leave, one day, two days, three days...one month, two months, three months...one year, two years, three years...until a lifetime. They long to go away for a lifetime, just to see some good scenery, to accompany their family or to escape the shackles of family, to do something they have never done, to write a song... But they are all in order to find a real "place of no support", that is Like a paradise, there is no sadness, no hesitation, no pain, just full of the most genuine freedom. Fern, perseverance, bravery, fearless of the world, and kind-hearted, such a woman still needs to leave the house where she has lived for most of her life and become a "modern nomad", because of her husband, and more because of herself. Fortunately, she met Linda May, Dave, Swanky and Santa Claus... They were all proud, wild, and free, but the society developed too fast, and then eliminated these "anti-future" edges and corners, so I had to Driving an RV to a distance that you don't even know. It can be seen that this is undoubtedly painful and sad, but they have no other choice.
There is a plot in the movie. After Fern came to Dave's house, he helped Dave hold his grandson, and Dave also expressed his affection for her. When she held the child, her eyes were empty, making people feel that she did not belong here, let alone this regulated society. Dave had also pursued poetry and distant places when he was young, and abandoned his children, but now that he is old, he no longer has the passion of the past, and he can only curl up in this small world. His destiny is like this, he ran away for half his life and returned with gray hair. Fern clearly has a touch on "family," but maintains a houseless pride. But soon after, Swanka died of cancer. Those nomads lit bonfires and threw in stone after stone. The firelight reflected on everyone's face, full of sadness written on it, because this was their extreme helplessness. Destiny's End: Death by Solitude. Afterwards, Fern also went to the former home, but like greeting an old friend, after greeting him, he left. At the end of the film, the piano music is still playing.
One of my favorite passages in this film is when she walks to the sea, against the sea breeze, exhales, inhales, takes off her hat, and sees her real self. Zhao Ting finally reached the point of maximum empathy: despite the difficulties in the world, despite wandering, she still belongs to the freedom of the wild. During this journey, "see yourself, see heaven and earth, see all beings", Wong Kar-wai's language can be summed up in one sentence. Fern's meeting again and again, and the estrangement between him and others, are all Wong Kar Wai. It can be seen that Zhao Ting still has an oriental soul, knocking on the door in the depths of Western culture, and then finding the origin of human beings, the deepest piece of "nowhere" in her heart.
In fact, Jia Zhangke, Wang Jiawei, Ang Lee, and sometimes Zhang Yimou all saw the miserable situation of some people under the wheel of the times, and expressed the deep humanistic care of the Chinese people. This is also the most important reason I like this "Nowhere" (of course the scenery in the film is also very good?). We spent our whole life in several places, on several bad things, under the pressure of time and others, and we didn't understand our last breath until we died. This is the ending of most people, but not the ending of "Fern". Even though they have a sad background, they still have the courage to wander and simply pursue their heart's whereabouts. The ending is sad? So why not? They are still the heroes of life: they "recognize the truth of life and still love life". You will still be moved by a beautiful scenery, you will still laugh at yourself because of the stupid things you have done, and you will still be wrapped in several layers of bedding in the cold... Even so, you can still go to the next unknown destination and see more people. Still accepting life, old age, sickness and death plainly, seeing the clarity in my heart, and hearing the outdated whispers in my ears.
The fourth long review is here! Sincerely wish that we are better, can hug in the dark and laugh in the sunshine.
