The movie fictionalizes a world where only the truth is told without lies, and the actor has mastered the skill of lying when he is in an economic distress, and the world around him begins to change. Use absurd methods to realistically map some phenomena in the real society, such as religious beliefs, standards for mate selection, secular prejudices, and so on.
The content sounds serious, but the lines and setting of the movie are full of humor. Personally find it very interesting. To give some small examples (including spoilers, be careful), God is Man in the sky in this fictional world; the Ten Commandments are written on the pizzahut box; the nursing home is described as A sad place for hopeless old people; the church is A quiet place to think about the man in the sky...and so on.
There are also a lot of funny plots in the play, mainly due to the contrast in the effect brought by people believing the lies told by the male protagonist. Just look at the trailer. A woman’s response to the male protagonist’s request for have sex is: do it right now or get a motel, just because the male protagonist lied to her that the end of the world is coming.
Although the leading actor is fat and ugly, he plays very naturally. It looks helpless and sad, and it feels a bit dull, but sincere and cute when smiling, the British accent doesn’t sound high above; although he has a talent for lying, he usually only tells comforting lies, even if he can. Lies but will not use lies to deceive the one you love. In the end, the heroine chose him more convincingly.
In short, it is a movie that I like. It's more sincere. After watching it, it made me think about it. It can be included in my list of top 3 movies this year.
PS: Joe Wang, a Chinese who broke into a small sky in stand-up comedy in the United States, also showed his face and said a line.
