Kevin Smith’s inspiration for creating this film came from his real-life relationship with Joey Lauren Adams, who played the heroine Alyssa Jones in the film. In life, Kevin and Joey are completely different people. "People often say that different people are easy to attract each other, but they never said how to get along after different people are attracted." Kevin Smith complained. He encountered similar troubles as "Holden" played by Ben Affleck in the film (of course the plot and life are still very different, such as homosexuality and "Finger Cuffs" are all fictional).
Holden fell in love with Alyssa, who was gay at the time, and made her feel and love. Later, because I learned about Alyssa's past chaotic life, I didn't know how to face it, which caused a lot of harm to both of them.
Holden's reaction in the film should not be excessive. People always say they are looking for love, but when they see love, they are often troubled by other things. "If it's love, what's the problem?" It often comes from onlookers. It is inevitable to encounter problems, and how to deal with them correctly is the problem. It is not easy to get rid of traditional concepts, psychology, and stereotypes. So it takes a lot of effort to get true love.
Alyssa is not really gay. She is a woman who is always looking for and "experimenting". When she found her, she was "new" and truly real. Falling in love with her now, why bother to delve into her past.
There are many dialogues in the film about the definition of sex and love. The difference between concept and reality, the difference in form and feeling, convey the message of getting rid of the shackles and facing sincerely.
There is also a main character in the film, Banky, Holden's work partner and best friend. He acts as a "spoiler" between Holden and Alyssa. In fact, this is a question of how to properly handle the contradiction or compatibility of love and friendship. Jason Lee, the actor of Banky, is now the screenwriter and star of the American TV comedy "My Name Is Earl" with the highest ratings.
In the movie, Holden and Alyssa parted ways, but in reality, Kevin Smith had a clearer understanding through script writing and film shooting, and successfully resolved his problems with Joey.
Because it is an independent film, the cast cannot be said to be luxurious, but the guest appearances of relatives and friends are also very interesting. I was not a superstar at the time. This is the second time he appeared in Kevin’s movie, and he has collaborated many times since, including the recent "Crazy Clerk 2". Ben's best friend Matt Dimon also appeared, and cameo as the manager of a publishing house. The blonde who plays Alyssa's gay girlfriend is the wife of Banky's Jason Lee. At the end of the film, Alyssa was with Alyssa at the comics show, and it was Kevin Smith's sister. Of course, the two "Jay and Silent Bob" are indispensable. Silent Bob is Kevin Smith himself.
If you have watched the video, you must be impressed by Alyssa's solo. "Alive", composed and sung by Joey Lauren Adams himself, that husky voice can catch people's hearts.
I'm feeling nothing
But all alone
Just missing someone
I don't even know
But until I find them
I'll wait patiently
Just feeling nothing
Inside of me
And where are you baby
Where can you be
Why aren't you here
Loving
me'Cause I won't to kiss you
And make you feel right
I want to lay with you
all through the night
And I want to feel passion
I want to feel pain
I want to weep at the sound of your name
Come make me laugh
Come make me cry
Just make me feel
Alive
And so I wait
For that glorious day
When the one I dream of
Comes my way
But until I find them
I'll wait patiently
Just feeling nothing
Inside of me
And where are you baby
Where can you be
Why aren't you here
Loving me
'Cause I want to kiss you
and make you feel right
I want to lay with you
All through the night
And I want to feel passion...
