Mother of the Matrix

It's amazing to be able to make such a movie in 1995.
The green subtitles at the beginning of the film make people feel that the inspiration for the iconic background subtitles of The Matrix must come from this. Although the picture is rough, the storyline of the film is fascinating (it is not ruled out that some people cannot understand it the first time).
If you have watched the second part of ghost in the shell, innocence, you will find that the structure of the two movies is so similar. Even their theme song is the same. Both movies are discussing such a topic, the separation of soul and body. The reason why human beings are human is because of his external existence or because of its highly developed material, wisdom, or self-perception. If the human mind, or the soul, eventually leaves the human body due to technological progress, How do people think of people. If the development of artificial intelligence makes the machine finally self-perceive and realize the existence of self, then where is the boundary between human and machine?
I like this topic very much, and I hope that more movies will come out.

Like a bridge connecting Blade Runner and The Matrix. The authenticity of memory and the difference between humans and machines discussed are all clichés, but the beauty of "Battling in the Shell" is the sense of loneliness. The story is set in Hong Kong, and the mixed and cramped urban environment fits naturally with the cyberpunk style. In addition to the fierce and exciting action scenes, the visual presentation of philosophy has reached a pure beauty. This is the ultimate dance of thought and animation (content and form). As for the story itself, it still has to take a back seat in the evaluation system.

There are about two kinds of people who watch Attack in the Shell - the TV version of the die-hard Geek, who is immersed in the fantasy of cyberpunk and unable to extricate himself; the tourist group who comes here admiringly, who is confused and praises the art and soundtrack of the character design. I may belong to the latter. To understand this film, you need a good subtitled version (with allusions) and a certain understanding of the history of cyberpunk culture

Ghost in the Shell quotes

  • Puppet Master: We have been subordinate to our limitations until now. The time has come to cast aside these bonds and to elevate our consciousness to a higher plane. It is time to become a part of all things.

  • Major Motoko Kusanagi: There are countless ingredients that make up the human body and mind, like all the components that make up me as an individual with my own personality. Sure I have a face and voice to distinguish myself from others, but my thoughts and memories are unique only to me, and I carry a sense of my own destiny. Each of those things are just a small part of it. I collect information to use in my own way. All of that blends to create a mixture that forms me and gives rise to my conscience. I feel confined, only free to expand myself within boundaries.
