call of the wild

As a monument in the history of American literature, Jack London's "The Call of the Wild" has many film and television adaptations, but there has never been a suitable masterpiece. Of course, this is due to the limitations of the original work a hundred years ago, and it is also a difficult point to grasp the point of view.

The absolute heart of the story is Buck the dog, but the animal actors just follow orders and don't act; the human actors naturally act, but they only interfere with Jack London's figurative meaning.

What "The Old Man and the Dog" is waiting for may be the present moment: the motion-captured CG animals have already crossed the Uncanny Valley and frozen in the magnificent scenery of the Yukon, and it is no longer a difficulty in shooting.

The new version of "The Call of the Wild", which has overcome technical limitations, has significantly improved its narrative means, and has maintained a considerable degree of respect for the original work, making it undoubtedly one of the best versions to date.

But at the same time, as the first film of 20th Century Fox after its name change, "The Call of the Wild" still has many problems - some of which can be avoided (such as the deviation of the creative concept), and some are unattainable regrets .

Despite this, Disney-style is suitable for all ages, and with the blessing of Gu Xi Fubo, the 2020 version of "The Call of the Wild" still does not lose its watchability.

The Call of the Wild quotes

  • John Thornton: This is a map of the Yukon. My son was always reading adventure stories, crazy about the news coming out of the Yukon. Wasn't the gold, he didn't care about that, it was the mountains. He spent all day looking at maps and pictures of the mountains, dreaming about was on the other side, places no one had been, wild places. We could go, you and me, see what's out there. What do you think?

  • John Thornton: [narrates] There's a place in these mountains where a new breed of timber wolf roams, wiser than men or wolf, because of the dog that runs at the head of a pack. Now... they live without fear, raise their young and flourish.
