Stories of geniuses

On September 4, 2018, a memoir called "Little People: My Father Jobs and I" was released in the United States, the author is Jobs' illegitimate daughter. American author Lisa Brennan Jobs describes her story with her father in this memoir. On January 11, 2019, I was lucky enough to buy the last book at the airport bookstore in LAX, but I didn't expect it to take a year and a half to read it.

A few months ago, I came across the 2015 edition of "Iron Man in Silicon Valley" in an online bookstore. Biographer Ashley Vance traced Elon's childhood from his childhood to his founding and his life by interviewing Elon Musk himself and those around him. The story between the sale of Zip2 and PayPal, and the creation of three magical companies, SpaceX, Tesla, and SolarCity. Halfway through it, I can't help but wonder: Is the first-class career created by these geniuses a reflection of the divided, chaotic, dysfunctional world within them.

Recently, the adventure film "Hot Air Balloon Pilot" produced by Amazon Pictures in the United States has been online in major theaters across the country. The prototype of the male protagonist is James Gleisher, a famous meteorologist in the 19th century, who devoted his life to the research of meteorology and aviation science, and the prototype of the female protagonist is the world's first professional female balloon pilot Sophie B. Lanchet. They embark on an extraordinary high-altitude adventure in a hot air balloon, trying to discover the mysteries of heaven. During their flight, they challenged heights never before reached by humans in a hot air balloon, but also fell into an epic battle for survival.

The difference between geniuses and ordinary people is that they are really good at telling stories.

Although communication skills are part of genius. They are good at using their stories to connect with others, allowing listeners to see themselves in their stories. Our lives are made up of stories, and good stories don't tell you how great you are; good stories tell you what kind of person you can be. Geniuses use their stories to encourage us, give us a positive energy, and then use this energy to find a better version of ourselves.

The concept of work-life balance originated in the 19th century as a term used by anthropologists studying the happiness levels of tribal populations, and they came to a conclusion: what you do at work and the rest of your life The smaller the boundaries between what you do, the happier you are. So really, work-life balance isn't about balance, it's about integration. After entering the modern society, our work and family, private affairs and public affairs are very forcefully divided, men and women are assigned to different social roles because of their respective attributes, and the success and inner satisfaction. So, when the term work-life balance became popular again in the UK in the 1970s and the US in the 1980s, it was given another interpretation: find your passion.

In other words: Do What You Love.

It's just that none of us seem to be very good at finding a way to do that. Einstein once said that a question cannot be answered from the same level of consciousness that created it, so perhaps we should go back and look at the origin of the word passion, which is suffer. Religious scholars started using the word passion in the 12th century, and then we have the Passion Play: His trial, suffering and death is called the passion play, and the story expresses a very specific kind of suffering: the initiative , voluntarily and stubbornly asking for hardship, making people feel that only a lunatic would do this.

It turns out that we often confuse finding love with finding happiness.

Logic : The logic of love is compulsive repetition. Connecting the truly happy moments in our lives leads us to find something more important than happiness, and happiness is the price we are willing to pay for it. We can't choose our love just as we can't choose our mission, and we can't choose our mission just as we can't choose to be drawn to the same kind of story over and over again. You know, people are always describing their ideal career, the lifestyle they've been looking for, and then you realize that the life they're living right now doesn't look like that at all.

Forced Obsession : In order to find a way to solve the problem, we will recreate a certain scene or relationship in the past over and over again under the subconscious drive, just like a scientist in a movie who is addicted to challenging the limit of the sky, repeating that one thousand times over and over again Experiments that have not yet obtained the ideal data, allow the desire to explore to withdraw itself from consciousness, to get closer to the truth that must be known, and to try to make the future close to perfection through the mastery of the past. We often equate mastery with domination, but the two are not the same. Mastery is learned, and the key to mastering something is to delve into it thoroughly, right down to the source code, and then develop the ability to manipulate that source code at will with the feel of your fingertips. This ability of course changes everything, just like magic. To escape from a world that rejects us, or feels too miserable to continue living, we create a parallel world. There are people who are very good at doing it and have an amazing set of skills, they inject their world into ours and thus change the world. These people are what we call dreamers, and they flow between different worlds, different states of consciousness. Smart dreamers will develop their obsessive-compulsive disorder into a career, because an extreme goal can completely tie a person's life vision.

Sacrifice Victim : In the general world, we always associate victims with characters who are weak or manipulative, because then someone will come and tell them how good they are. However, the original meaning of the word victim actually refers to people who sacrifice themselves to the gods, and you can think of them as people who have traveled to another world and come back with a story. Because love means suffering, and compassion means suffering with. These brought back stories connect different worlds, and change will only happen when we open the doors of our world to another. When a story is brought into the world, it starts to merge with other people's stories and becomes a community that can learn from each other, because stories are vehicles of wisdom, and some stories may sound really strange, but As you may have noticed, our world is ruled by such a strange group of people.

Evolve : Whether it's Silicon Valley mythology Steve Jobs, Elon Musk, or balloonist Emilia Wren and scientist James Gleisher, geniuses often seem highly similar, and what we create about them satisfied with their visions of the future, allowing them to enter our world, extending the comfort zone there. While they are changing the world, the world is also changing the way the world sees them, from the lonely kid who was snubbed and ridiculed in elementary school, to the nerd who couldn't make friends in college, to the one-of-a-kind entrepreneurial genius in Silicon Valley, I think our Society has reached a point where we feel comfortable with their presence, from resistance to acceptance to love, no matter what color they are, what country they come from, the external attributes don't matter anymore, it's them that are fascinating body's story.

The process of exploration is always full of confusion and moments of near-collapse, and that feeling is like the little monster that lives in the heart suddenly moved. It feels like it's trying to tell us a story, and if you think it's a good story, figure out a way to throw it on a campfire where people can see it, whether it's through art, programming, or building a company. In short, let it burn hot. Even if you feel frustrated, hopeless, and lonely at times, it’s okay to wonder what the point of doing it is, because that’s how stories are born. Our lives are made up of story after story, and those brushstrokes that paint the story, say, setbacks, are enough to change the world.

Yoga teachers usually end the practice with their hands clasped in front of their chest, eyes closed, bowing, and saying namaste. This is a Sanskrit phrase that literally translates to "My soul salutes your soul". I like to think of it as my inner little monster is paying homage to your inner little monster, the little monster the ancient Romans called gifted, rare, brilliant and magical spirituality. And our true inner form needs to be found through whispers, glimmers and clues.
