The overall story of this renovation is still very respectful of the original. Not for the sake of the bad meal, but for the inheritance, I feel this sincerity. When I was very young, I read the picture book of Taketori Monogatari. The refurbishment of Bamboo Story is believed to make it spread longer and farther.
So let's talk about the changes in this version. Although not much has been changed, Hun Takahata has directed it with warmth and affection. See the chapter for details. Many detailed lines and scenes are meaningful. At such an age, Isao Takahata showed his life through the story of Bamboo Tori. Probably only at the age of Takahata Isao, can he tell life in such a transparent and nostalgic way?
- The mountains and forests symbolize Kaguya's beautiful childhood, and the end of childhood is always sudden. Kaguya thought that she could continue to play and eat hot pot with her friends in the mountains and forests tomorrow, "but such a tomorrow never came."
- In Kaguya's coming-of-age ceremony, she couldn't stand the oppression of the capital and ran to the mountains. This is the beginning of Kaguya's rebellion. Like everyone in adolescence, confused, depressed, and wanting to escape. She returned to the mountain forest, but found that the mountain forest when she was a child has changed. But at this time, an old man told her that spring would come back after winter. "The mountain isn't dead. You see, the trees are ready for spring." "Will spring come back?" "Yeah. Now everyone is just patiently patiently waiting for spring to come again." Just like when life is not going well, you have to have hope, because winter will pass and spring will come.
- What Kaguya said when she told her parents that she was about to leave, expressed her realization when her life was coming to an end: when people come to the world, the most important meaning is to live. Are you enjoying your life well? "What the hell have I done? It's just that I don't want to be anyone's appendage. I didn't remember why I came until I was about to leave. It turns out that I was born to live."
- "I really want to go back" shouted by Kaguya, I seem to hear an old man who has gone through life's reluctance to let go of the world and his nostalgia for childhood. The mother finally took her back to the mountain forest and met Brother Shewan. Kaguya told her ignorant emotions to her. In the last time, I made up for the regrets of this life a little. After Brother Shemaru woke up, Kaguya had already left, and he said, "It turned out to be a dream." Like many encounters and misses, like a dream.
- In addition, there are many intriguing details. Such as Kaguya's little "childhood forest" planted in the backyard of the capital, the dialogue when Sagami wanted to put makeup on her, "The princess doesn't need to sweat, she doesn't need to laugh", "The kind of happiness that my father wants is right. Pain for me" and so on...
Finally, the two most important adaptations in my opinion:
- The added Shemaru brother is still very good. Brother Shemaru has become a symbol of sincerity, freedom, beauty and vitality. It contrasts the hypocrisy, restraint and coldness of the "capital". Be the representative of what Kaguya aspires to. It is more established that Kaguya is not afraid of the powerful and does not like the constraints of etiquette. It also made Kaguya's reluctance to let go of the world more specific before she left.
- The lyrics of the nursery rhyme "Turn, turn, turn, turn" is like the reincarnation of life and all things in the world. Cycles of life and death alternate. In the end, the two unknown lyrics sung by Kaguya, "If you hear the words of the king, treat me to return, I will make the rules as soon as possible", telling the various partings and reluctance in life. Although I understand that all things are reincarnated and people are mortal, they still do not want to leave, and have infinite nostalgia for the world.
