1. Society rejects outliers. Hitchcock's Bruno mirrors the deviants of America in the 1950s: Oedipus, homosexuality, homicide. At the end of the film, Bruno is killed by accident, neither by trial by execution nor by escaping capture. This implies the extreme fear and rejection of outliers in the society at that time, which is a primitive instinctive emotion that overrides law and rationality. Interestingly, the 1951 Heath Code is still in effect, and it may be this law that forced the director to give Bruno such an ending. Today's society is indeed more inclusive than it was seventy years ago, but it is still inherently ostracizing the outliers. An example is "involution": the majority of people live by the same standard of values, and look down on the few who deviate from it. Another example is racial discrimination.
2. The exclusion of outliers is contradictory and irrational. The contradictory nature of conformity behavior is reflected in the fact that humans, as social animals, naturally have the instinct of conformity, and the instinct to dislike outliers, which is conducive to survival. In essence, however, people are complex and diverse, and everyone is an outlier in some dimensions. So in the context of conformity, people reject outliers while being rejected by others. So sometimes I have to smooth the edges and corners, trying to make myself mediocre and gregarious. Similar human contradictions are class societies. The irrationality of herd behavior is that it makes us give up thinking and conscience. For example, the 15th century European witch hunts killed innocent women. In such a dark society, sticking to one's conscience is deviant.
3. Try to embrace outliers. If Bruno and Guy are seen as two sides of the same person, then this person finally chose to completely wipe out the outlier and evil side. But in fact, neither society nor individuals can completely eliminate outlier characteristics. And, outliers don't necessarily mean evil. If Guy can give Bruno some positive guidance on the train, it might change his fate. Bruno's family is very strange, the father is too strict, and the mother is a doting child, who draws devil oil paintings for leisure. Whoever grew up in such a family would have their character somewhat distorted. If we leave him alone, let him gradually accumulate this distortion, and finally be executed for breaking the law, wouldn't it mean to kill him indirectly? If we have better education, social atmosphere, psychological treatment, etc., can we help outliers be accepted by themselves, their families, and society, and can such tragedies be avoided?
4. Fight against evil thoughts. In addition to symbolizing outliers, Bruno also symbolizes evil thoughts. It is quite difficult for the thoughts of justice and rationality in the heart to defeat the thoughts of evil and corruption. Just like the branch of the train track at the beginning, people will be tempted by evil thoughts if they are not careful, and their fate will be changed accordingly. Even though it is difficult, we still have to weaken and domesticate the evil thoughts as much as possible. The reason why man is different from beasts is that man possesses divinity and has the self-control to restrain evil thoughts.
Other feelings: 1) Although it is a black and white film, it does not feel that the lens is boring at all, but can better appreciate the rich meaning of light and shadow. Moreover, although it is an old movie 70 years ago, it seems that there is almost no obstacle to understanding today. As expected of Xifa! 2) Watching old movies is very literary in itself! The actors and directors who made the film at that time, and the audience at the beginning of its release may have all turned into dust in time, but the film has been handed down and watched by generations. Who on the riverside first saw the moon, and when did Jiangyue look at people at the beginning of the year. 3) The tension of the movie is so well rendered, I get sweaty palms watching key sequences... 4) Feels like I'm on Bruno's side most of the time. I also liked to stare straight at people when I was young... At the same time, my own ideas often diverged from most people's. For example, the angle of this film review is far from the hot review. When Bruno accidentally dropped the key evidence lighter into the sewer, the classmates around him laughed, but I hoped in my heart that he would not lose so easily.
Records Beyond Movies: Movies watched in the lecture hall of the library. The entrance is the same slope as the pyramid, and the interior is a carefully decorated quiet passage. In the lecture hall that can accommodate more than 100 people, there are less than 20 students who actually watch the movie, so it is very spacious and comfortable, and there is a sense of ceremony of "watching movies specially". The seats and decoration of the lecture hall are relatively delicate, and the projector and sound are also new. It can be said that the viewing experience is very good. The viewing date is Friday, October 30th. ——October 31st in the dormitory
