A super five-star Broadway musical was adapted into a Hollywood stall

Only four stars, no more.

The previous words: Audiences who are dissatisfied with the show can search for the 1991 PBS version of Into the Woods (stage video). When you have watched a three-hour stage play and feel unsatisfactory, but it is adapted into a two-hour movie but found to be boring, you can know how bad the film is. Compared with the stage play, the jokes of this film are discounted at 30%, the plot is discounted at 20%, and the scenes are moving at a 50% discount. Had it not been for the original halo, I would have scored two stars.

In view of the director's successful adaptation of "Chicago", this adaptation can only be described as being quite satisfactory.

When I watched it in the theater, I found that there were not many plots that made the audience laugh. In fact, everyone who is familiar with the original drama knows that this drama has a lot of laughter on the stage. Among the problems, in addition to cutting some of the plot and characters, the more important thing is that the timing of the dialogue was not well mastered when adapting the movie. Many lines that were originally funny on the stage seemed to be changed because of the pause and tone of the movie. How funny.

In addition, apart from Little Red Riding Hood's memories of being eaten by the big bad wolf and Cinderella on the steps, we basically didn't see the director's imagination in Chicago. It's a pity.

I believe that many viewers who have watched the original drama or the stage video find that the film has cut off the role of the narrator/mystery man and they want to scold the street, right?

But... It's not easy for Disney to adapt Into the Woods to such a dark drama. It’s a pity that it’s because children shouldn’t cut off some of the sexually suggestive and violent content of the
original drama. Rapunzel also hangs up in the end)

The biggest problem in the plot may be that the transition between the first half and the second half of the story is too hasty. In order to make up for the film’s lack of intermission, the interval between the two halves of the story was shortened. (There is at least a year or so between the first and the second half of the original drama, so Cinderella will get bored with court life.)

Fortunately, this movie miraculously did not use any actor who can't sing as the main role. In the history of musical adaptation films, it seems that only "Yoshiya Rental" has done this.

Also, most viewers who don’t know the background of the show didn’t expect them to watch a 2-hour Disney movie...

This is the real thing, you can't get into it. The adaptation and singing skills are above the pass, but the dark side and the funny don't dare to go too far. Could it be because of Disney? The director who has filmed Chicago has also filmed nine, and this one is between the two. Agony is much hilarious than the stage version hahaha.

If there is no good dark fairy tale, I still have a chance to watch the original stage play. The story after the happy ending is a bit interesting, and I also feel like I want to reverse the case for the witch, but I still haven't told it well, the song is good, the singing is good, except for the big-name actors, the cast members also like it very much, there are several American drama familiar face

Into the Woods quotes

  • Witch: [singing] You're not good, you're not bad, you're just nice. I'm not good, I'm not nice, I'm just right. I'm the witch. You're the world.

  • Baker's Wife: Just remembering you had an 'and,' when you're back to 'or,' makes the 'or' mean more than is did before.
