Jarmusch, the gentle human observer

A bit of Savage Tales, Earth Night doesn't have too many absurd, darkly humorous twists. Through the stories of five taxi drivers, Jarmusch has photographed the warmth, prejudice and various lives. 1. Los Angeles, a scout and a mechanic (dream), Los Angeles is a city where everyone has a Hollywood dream. The scouts have a non-stop work rhythm, and their personal emotional life is a mess. Seemingly flowing female driver, she has persistent dreams, is satisfied with her current career, and has her own understanding of love. Not floating in the world, precious firmness. 2. New York, clown drivers and trendy blacks, living in New York with huge class differences, can still use hearty laughter to make fun of life. "I am a clown, I need money, but money is not important to me." 3. Paris, a black driver with strong prejudice and a blind girl with a heart like a mirror. "I've never seen a blind person before, so I don't know that blind people wear sunglasses." 4. Rome, a selfish male driver and the godfather of social fear, lives in a world without other people, and can even ignore a guest's heart attack. 5. Helsinki, Bi Miserable Award, people have consolation and true feelings, but all empathy is limited, "Nothing in the world is free." The director presents five stories, without accusation, naked but powerful.

Night on Earth quotes

  • Paris Driver: I work from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m., so don't fuck with me in my own taxi! I don't give a shit about you, Ambassador, OK?

Passenger #1: Can't we have some fun?

Passenger #2: We've had champagne and we're happy...

Paris Driver: No, you don't have fun in my taxi! It's my place of business, not your fucking playground! Okay, get out!

  • Paris Driver: Okay, if you're so smart, let me ask you a question. What color am I?

Blind Woman: I don't give a fuck about colors!

Paris Driver: But people have different colors of skin.

Blind Woman: Look, I don't care if you're green or blue like a carrot! For me the word color doesn't mean anything. I feel colors... but you'd never understand that!
