Too cruel, too depressing, too desperate. The name of the movie "Buried" in English means "buried alive", so I had to transliterate it and hang it here. Throughout the film, only a man named Paul, instead of Reid, is imprisoned in a coffin in the desert. His main objects were a lighter, a mobile phone, a flashlight with poor contact and two light sticks, right. There is also a snake that makes a cameo appearance for a few minutes. It is strongly not recommended for people with claustrophobia to watch this film, because this is the smallest film in history, and the whole film does not leave the inside of the coffin.
At the same time, this is probably the most spoiler-free movie of all time. because, with the exception of the ending, I had already finished the spoiler Buried alive, what would you do instead? I'm afraid this is a question that the audience, who were tortured for an hour and a half, kept thinking about. Yes, there is a mobile phone with sufficient power and signal. This is the only hope, and it is also the premise for the story to continue. I have to add that the story was set ten years ago, which was a fairly advanced movie at the time. Blackberry phones have accurate positioning functions, but at the same time, the protagonist wakes up from the darkness at the beginning of the film and does not know where he is buried.
So, not surprisingly, the protagonist spends most of the time contacting the outside world for help by phone, and the cause, development, and ending of the matter become clear little by little during the call. When an American truck driver was kidnapped and buried alive in the deserts of the Iraqi hinterland, who could he turn to? It is estimated that everyone can think of it, nothing more than the company he works for, the US government, his family, and, of course, the kidnapper, because the kidnapper provided this phone call to demand a ransom from him. It is also unsurprising: the working company only cares about its economic interests; it must stop losses in time, or even fall into the trap, and cut the relationship with the protagonist; the government will use political influence in the first place, and will not use too many resources to solve such problems.
Moreover, the U.S. government has strict regulations on similar incidents; that is, it is determined not to pay the ransom to the kidnappers; as for Paul’s family, they are anxious but unable to help. After all, the protagonist traveled across the ocean to Iraq to make a living, and the family’s energy is extremely weak; based on the above Because of this, it becomes even more impossible to expect the kidnappers to get away with it. The sadness is greater than the death of the heart, which is the trigger point of the story that makes people feel anxious, hopeless, and depressed. Besides, time waits for no one, because the explosion on the ground caused a crack in the upper part of the coffin, sand began to fall into the coffin continuously, and the real burial began... Then what should Paul do? What can we do instead? The ending of the story is also the climax.
Personally, I feel that the design is very successful, so that the atmosphere and expression of the whole film are completely unified, which is very rare. Yes, it is relatively easy to cater to the audience and take care of their emotions, and maybe it is also very important, but sometimes it loses logic and integrity. A good movie must still have a little personality. Giving the audience a little stimulation can lead to some sighs and thoughts. Sometimes it is better to be happy. This is not contradictory. I hope my explanation can attract friends who haven't seen the film to feel it and see if I'm right.
