The common translation in Chinese is "Dream Detective", which is a name I despise. Direct transliteration, such as Paprika / Paprika / red pepper, I feel ok.
This is the first time I've seen Jinmin's stuff. After watching it, I can only say that it is very good and powerful.
As an animation, Paprika is enough to shock people in terms of pictures. If "Evil Boy" is a low-key and far-reaching gorgeous color, "Paprika" is more high-key, the color is more red and so on, it feels like the texture of a cloud, the sharpness is not high, but it is still very comfortable. And, it's gorgeous.
And if the plot is compared with "The Bad Boy", I can only officially say that this is a different style. Although obviously "Paprika" looks better. But "Bad Boy" is like slowly touching your heart and planting seeds, and "Paprika" simply blossoms directly.
The plot of "Paprika" can be said to be quite imaginative. The switch between dream and reality makes people feel like a dream. The meaning is also very deep. A little suspenseful and a little scary plot is very catchy. So the whole film doesn't feel boring at all, although I let out a sigh of relief at the end to applaud it.
If I want to explore the true meaning of this film, I can only say that the details of the plot contain too much. Jealousy, self-redemption, split consciousness, and self-reflection projections make the mind never stop watching this film. And many pictures in the parade, like Silent Hill, have its metaphors. There are boys who have turned into mobile phones, madly filming under the skirts of schoolgirls who have been deformed, there are perverted manifestations of office workers, and there are Guanyin Bodhisattva and the Statue of Liberty both wearing bikinis and beckoning cats occupying the street together, and so on.
The deepest impression to some people watching this film is that the heroine faces up to her own feelings, and what some people see is the connection and exploration between reality and dreams. Apart from the unrestrained expression, I feel the most profound reflection on modern technology. .
The inability of technology and the human spirit to synchronize can only lead to chaos. Too powerful technology is always used as a tool by greed and hegemony.
Do you think it is possible for mankind to throw away these bad roots?
Of course, this is not the main theme of the film. But if I really want to come up with a main theme, I can't do it. It can only be said that everyone has their own understanding.
But what I can say for sure is that this is definitely a movie that I will never regret watching. But if you're thinking too "normal", I'm afraid you'll get stuck in the turning section inside.
