This is not a movie review, it's a personal opinion
In fact, the most difficult thing to understand in a movie, or the most important thing is the ending. Another heroine on Earth came to find the heroine. But the movie doesn't say anything, which means it's an open ending. The heroine of another earth, why did she come to find the heroine? After the male protagonist went to another earth, what happened? ?
The most likely guess is that the male protagonist went to another earth and caused bad results. So the heroine of the other earth is trying to run to solve the problem. Perhaps after the male protagonist went to another earth, he saw that he and his wife and children were living well in another earth, and his inner greed exploded and he did bad things.
Wait, wait, because it's an open ending, it's up to the audience to understand it. I see a lot of viewers discussing assumptions about the ending. I want to get out of this topic.
The male protagonist actually developed feelings for the female protagonist, and the new feelings also made his life better. He began to tidy up the house and resumed his major (university professor). When he knew that the heroine was flying to another earth, he begged the heroine to stay. The hostess said, I tell a story, and if she wants to stay after listening to it, she will stay.
As a result, the male protagonist collapsed after knowing the truth.
Up in this Earth-1 timeline, his tragedy has become history. He could have let go of the past and chose to live with the heroine again. But he couldn't. We don't criticize why we can't do it. It's not surprising that some people just can't do it. But on the other hand, people are bound by their own past. Many times, one of the common reasons why we lose our beautiful future is that we cannot forget the past. (To give an example that may not be appropriate, turning over old accounts between husband and wife is this kind of behavior)
Our relationship with the past is too tangled. We are based on what happened in the past. In other words, we now contain the entire past, how can we get rid of the past? But on the other hand, the past does not absolutely control the future. Because its impact on the future is indirect and needs to be processed subjectively by us. The easiest way to understand it is to think about the cup that is half filled with water. Some people think it is half missing, and some people think it is at least half.
The power of our subjective understanding can be said to be infinite, but for the same reason, the difficulty of changing the subjective understanding of the past is also infinite.
Let go, easier said than done. In my own words: we are all slaves to our own subjectivity.
The ending part, I personally tend to think that this is a pessimistic ending. There are two reasons.
1. Since this is a film that contains a philosophical temperament, it most likely contains the most universal temperament of philosophy itself: pessimism. Optimistic people rarely become philosophers. Look at the philosophers who are often mentioned in modern times. Many, many are pessimistic. Pessimism will stimulate people to think, they may think and think, become philosophers. Even some less pessimistic philosophers, their philosophical attitude is firstly based on pessimism, such as Sartre, which is optimistic pessimism.
2. If people feel happy, people will be more inclined to stay rather than leave. The heroine of Earth 2 ran to Earth 1, which may indicate that Earth 2 had difficulties that she could not handle. Just like the reason why the Earth 1 girl wanted to go to Earth 2, she wanted to get out of this unsolvable predicament.
