Many people say that the plot of this movie is old-fashioned, but in fact, if you want to include most of the elements in a Gothic horror story, it is difficult to not be old-fashioned (because it itself is a story that has been written for hundreds of years. It is also said that the ghosts inside have no effect at all. In fact, very few ghosts in Gothic horror stories really do. They usually float around to create an atmosphere, instead of crawling out of the TV to kill people like Sadako in modern horror stories. The final mystery of the Gothic horror story is almost all crimes committed by living people. The ghosts in the abandoned house are not so much a "supernatural phenomenon" as a concrete manifestation of a covered crime. Therefore, "The ghost is your past" repeatedly in Scarlet Mountain is actually a very good understanding of Gothic symbolism.
In fact, according to the style of Usher House and Allan Poe or Lovecraft, the heroine should have finally discovered the secrets of the Sharp brothers and sisters, discovered the hidden bodies, and finally managed to escape from the villa, watching the villa and the brothers and sisters were buried in the sea of flames. Gothic horror stories generally do not have such plots as justice. Most of them are very good if the final protagonist can survive (for example, Frankenstein died of illness at the end, and Dr. Avatar finally committed suicide). Many Gothic horror novels have tragic endings.
Therefore, the problem with Scarlet Mountain is not that his plot is routine, but that he has not implemented the routine to the end, and the movie has become nondescript from the second half.
