Doctor Dolittle locked himself up for seven years on an animal-only farm after losing his beloved wife. And these seven years of resentment and no contact with others, what is he living for? Is it for the one he loves? In order to get something. So, is his dead wife brought back to life because of his "devotional grief"? not at all. So, why is he trying so hard to be depressed?
Or, we can ask it another way - what is he grieving about? What could make him sad for seven years? Or, we can substitute ourselves, when we are grieving, what are we grieving about?
I wanted to analyze my own sad moments for you, so I tried to think back to my sad moments. But to put it in a very "flat", I don't seem to have too many sad moments, if there are, it seems to be short-lived. It's not that everything is happy, it's not that you're emotionally insensitive, you just think it's understandable to cry when you're empathetic. But keep crying? Doesn't this hurt the body?
Well, from my brief experience of grief alone, I feel that I am sad because I feel that I am lost. Maybe I lost the time and energy I put into it, maybe I lost some emotional value that I relied on, maybe I lost my hope, hope, and even the sustenance of my life.
Did you find that the point where I lost my grief was that that thing, that person, was no longer able to give back a certain energy that I needed, and for that energy, there was nothing better, but it was gone.
I once saw a very special and very similar argument on the Internet: if you lost an iPhone 6, and your mother found out and bought you an iPhone 7, you will still be happy; if your partner breaks up with you , but the male god you have admired for a long time confesses to you, you will still be happy involuntarily. People are not afraid of losing, but they are afraid that there will be no better replacement.
From this perspective, Dr. Dolittle's seven years of self-isolation can be easily understood. He lost what he thought was the best and could not be surpassed and replaced. He completely lost a certain energy, he failed, In this matter, he can no longer turn over and have.
But when the chicken soup came, people thought that there would be no more wine to drink, but Jesus could turn the plain white water into the best and best wine, so that the guests who drank the wine made by Jesus complained to the master: Why are you taking out your best wine now!
Naomi in the book of Ruth, she grieves her bitterness, her husband and her two sons have died one after another, and there is a famine in the place where she lives. So, she said to the sisters in her hometown, stop calling me sweet ("Naomi" means "sweet"), I'm really miserable!
But with God, things are not over yet, and better things are to come! A foreign daughter-in-law worked like a little bee, picking up ears of wheat every day to serve her mother-in-law. Later, a famous rich man married his daughter-in-law, and he also had a grandson. So the sisters began to say again: Blessed be the LORD! For today he has given you a close relative to make you a successor, may this child be famous in Israel! He will renew your life, feed you, and give you a good old age, for he was born of a daughter-in-law who loved you. Having a daughter-in-law here is better than having seven sons! (Refer to chapter 4 of Ruth)
So, since the better and the best are to come, what reason do you have to be sad all the time? What else do you want to say goodbye to this world and completely shut yourself off?
You have to guard your heart diligently, one person or one thing can hurt you for a while, but don't let them hurt you for a lifetime. You were not created for this, you were created for the good, the better, the best!
