1. Mark is a former Olympic champion, but wrestling is an unpopular event in the United States. In particular, the upper class sneered at this event and regarded it as low-level and barbaric. Mark desperately yearned for the recognition and respect of himself and the project of wrestling, so after the rich John found him, they hit it off.
2. The relationship between Mark and David is not only brothers, but in a sense, David is still half a father. Their parents divorced since they were young, and their elder brother played most of the father's role in it. Mark's resistance to David is a kind of resistance to patriarchy.
3. The relationship between John and his mother is quite indifferent. The main reason is that John did not meet his mother's expectations. There are generations of nobles and industry giants in the family, but John's taste is very poor, and he doesn't understand noble horsemanship, but he is obsessed with brutal wrestling. The mother is a very powerful party, the leader of the family, and John has been very strongly hoping to get his mother's approval since he was a child. His mother allowed John to put the wrestling trophy in the honor room, but when John pretended to act as a coach to instruct the players to train, his mother did not finish watching and left proudly. His mother has never identified with John in this life. This is a huge blow to John, and it has aggravated the inferiority complex deep in his heart.
4. John met his brother David for the first time. David and his wife and children were enjoying themselves. John flicked his sleeves away, looking very unmannered. The younger brother thinks that his brother and sister-in-law did not show enough politeness to make the boss unhappy. This is not the case. John is a typical avoidant personality disorder. Under the suppression of his mother, John grew up with a low self-esteem, lacked social skills, and closed his circle, making it difficult to establish close relationships with others. Seeing this happy family, this scene hit the sensitive and fragile John.
5. The relationship between John and Mark was very close at first, and suddenly the situation took a turn for the worse. This is also derived from John's avoidant personality disorder. He likes Mark and treats Mark as a brother. He told Mark that he had only a friend in his life when he was a child, and it was bought by his mother. Only Mark is different. But John's avoidant personality disorder made him unable to bear to establish close relationships with other people. When their relationship reaches a certain limit, he will be extremely repulsive and will not go further. This is a very painful thing.
6. After John recruited his brother Mark, it became very interesting. The younger brother did not accept his elder brother for two reasons. One was the resistance to the patriarchy and the desire for an independent personality; the other was jealous, and he did not like his brother to share the friendship with John with him. He thought he was unique in John's heart. John got his brother in as a coach for two reasons. First, for technical reasons, he needed a world-class coach; second, he deliberately alienated his brother because he couldn't accept further intimacy.
7. The outburst of contradictions is very forbearing and tense. John's shooting of his brother looked abrupt, but it was actually an outbreak of too much emotional backlog. John's estrangement from his brother didn't play any role, but he was jealous of his brother. The elder brother is the dominant person on the coach's field, and John just pretends, holding a cloth fan. Emotionally, the elder brother is also the dominant person, a happy family, good at communication, and a strong personal charm. Watching his elder brother slowly pull his younger brother away from him, my heart is extremely tormented. He himself is an inferiority person, a closed person, who has been suppressed by his mother for many years and has not been recognized by him. It is foreseeable that he will go to the extreme.
8. Bennett Miller has only made three movies in total, all of which are biopics, and two of them are sports-themed movies. When watching "Penalty Kick", I felt that this director is not an ordinary person, who can interpret the loneliness of a genius so well. After watching "Fox Hunter", I recognized this director even more. He is a master of human nature, and his silent, cold and delicate technique suits my taste very well. I look forward to his future works very much.
