Background of the story: Thatcher period - neoliberal policies

Miners are one of the strongest unions in the UK. Most of the mining industry at the time was state-owned. Thatcher's reforms first turned the state into private ownership. Many mining industries were at a loss, so some mines had to be closed, and a large number of workers had to lose their jobs. In South Wales, miners have been absent for about a year. Since they don't have any source of livelihood, the miners' movement relies on some other organizations, such as the LGBT community, to support them.

The relationship between LGBT groups and neoliberalism: Neoliberalism emphasizes autonomy and economic self-reliance; LGBT people have no political power for a long time, so they try to gain power economically, which in turn affects their political status economically. Since the 1980s and 1990s, the gay community has had a resonant relationship with neoliberalism, which has given gays some freedom.

Intersectionality: The transmission of discrimination between different groups: Discrimination against LGBT people is likely to be transmitted to other groups, such as discrimination against the elderly and women. Discrimination is essentially a desire for power within a patriarchal social group. In the past 20 years, many films about gays were aimed at fighting for the rights of gays and only focused on this group, which is relatively narrow. However, "Pride" revolves around the victory of gay rights in Western society. At present, the gay community has won a staged victory, but the future is not clear. Modernity makes our identities increasingly blurred. After the comrades have won the staged victory, the next goal is to go to other social groups and strive for victory and unity within the society. For example, gay groups are fighting for equal rights for AIDS groups and women's groups. In this modern individualistic society, we are facing a huge "machine" at the same time, and the union of more groups can achieve greater victory.

The effect of the class stratification of the country on the gay movement: Inequality between classes is essentially the same as the unfair treatment of gays, the former is economic, the latter is... um. When the class division in the country is very serious, the gay movement cannot develop, and the gay movement may even fall victim to the class movement. eg: The gay movement in China was basically funded by the West before, so at the cusp of the current split between the left and the right, the gay movement may be regarded as "the endorsement of the West". If the demands of comrades and social justice cannot be well combined, it will be difficult for the gay movement to develop.

The LGSM groups in this movie are all working class backgrounds, so they can resonate with miners. Gay groups are also divided into classes. Comrades in the middle class can enjoy the freedom of identity brought about by consumption, but comrades at the bottom may find it difficult to achieve even this freedom.

Civil repair can only be done after civil pollution!

Marginal experience: Marginal experience is the same, united on the basis of "empathy", and the ultimate goal is to be able to respect each other's differences.

Why it happened in the UK but not in the US: The social movement in the US in the 1960s was too prosperous and met with a strong backlash in the 1980s; the Republican Party absorbed the working class and the Democratic Party absorbed the LGBT class issues, and the two parted ways. And British social movements were not dispersed.

The selection of the entry point makes the film stand out among gay themes, the empathy among the disadvantaged groups, and the positive energy is bursting. Mom's words "This kind of life is difficult", and the dialogue with the mother and son in "Boyhood", together formed the most touching growth education in 2014.

  • [singing in The Van Driving to Dulais]

StephStellaZoe: [to the Tune of "Solidarity Forever"] Every woman is a lesbian at heart/Every woman is a lesbian at heart/Every woman is a lesbian at heart...

Reggie: You can't possibly say that every woman is a lesbian.

    Zoe: Why not?

Reggie: Because they're not! Esther Rantzen isn't a lesbian. My mum is not a lesbian.

    Stella: How do you know?

Reggie: How do I know my Mum's not a lesbian?

Ray: What he's trying to say is, you can't make grand, sweeping generalizations. It's not acceptable.

    [beat]

StephStellaZoe: [Resumes Singing] Every woman is a lesbian at heart/Every woman is a lesbian at heart/Every woman is a lesbian at heart/Including Reggie's Mum!

  • [as Mark Leaves to Go to The March]

Mark's Crotchety Old Neighbour: I've spoken to the council about your deviant parties.

Mark: There's no need to do that. Knock on the door, we'd let you in.

Mark's Crotchety Old Neighbour: They're sending a policeman!

Mark: Oh, I do hope so.
