spring dream autumn cloud

The translation of the title of the film is not ideal. The original meaning in English is "short-lived encounter". Personally, I think it can be translated as "Spring Dreams and Autumn Clouds". Lotte "Come like a spring dream for a long time, and go away like a cloud of nowhere to be found."

It is one of the surprises that the magnificent David Lean actually made such a very delicate, elegant and subtle film; it is also one of the very few purely feminine films that I have seen, the second surprise.

In terms of subject matter, the later "Land Bridge" is similar, but the narrative perspective of "Gang Bridge" is still masculine, and the story is also relatively shallow love at first sight and family responsibility, relying solely on Aunt Mei's acting skills to support the whole film; The layers of psychology of women can be understood, the nuanced portrayal is amazing, and hidden in the depths of the middle-aged derailment plot is actually the heroine's never-dead dream of another life possibility and doomed to failure. Trying, that kind of desperate effort and final loss, is really moving, and it took me a long time to read it. The male characters are quite pale in this film, and the male protagonist is even frivolous. The emotional foundation of this so-called love is actually very weak. It can be said that what the female protagonist falls in love with is a symbol, a reflection of self-salvation. That seemingly bright ending can't give people any comfort at all, because the heroine will have no more than two spiritual endings in the future, or die of a compromise with reality, or die in the next similar emotional runaway.

The technique of flashbacks and narration of the protagonist, and similar story outlines, reminds me of Fei Mu's "Spring in a Small Town" a few years later, but it is obviously not as natural as this film.

The flirtatious line of the proprietress of the coffee shop is very interesting. Compared with the main line, one village is harmonious, one repressed and one wanton, which is exactly what the novelist sets off.

'Before Brief Encounter, characters never thought in British cinema, they simply acted.'

  • Vince 2022-01-07 15:53:55

The plot is simple but full of fun, and the whole movie exudes a melancholic and elegant temperament from beginning to end. The seemingly derailed scene, but the director did not intend to speak ethically from the beginning. In addition, the film flashbacks the entire love process in the voice of the heroine "confessing" to her husband, which shows that this is just a romantic love. The story is more than ritual.
