Stubborn bones

The film adopts a linear narrative approach, making the story that is very easy to understand in itself even more straightforward without suspense. The only thing that can arouse the audience's interest is the trace of his father. Of course, there may be many people like me, I am afraid that Ree's father is dead. Therefore, the personal performance of the protagonist will be the only measure of the quality of the film. Ree's life is almost cut off from modern society. There is no trace of modern advanced civilization in the whole film, not even a mobile phone is seen. Every day, Ree is thinking about how to eat and how to prevent his family from being hungry. And when all of this maintenance-the house, will be lost, the most primitive desire for survival hidden in Ree's heart also exploded. Therefore, she is fearless, without a car, without a goal, just through a few clues, and through the most primitive way of inquiry to find the clues of her father. All the difficulties seem to be much smaller in the face of the desire to survive, so when Ree was beaten violently, she was even very likely to be killed, she just asked very calmly, "Are you going to kill me?" The expression of fear, in the face of cruelty, the cold heart had already cooled all fear.

The film's depiction of the characters' hearts is also very vivid. In particular, Ree stared at the wardrobe and shoes many times, stood at the door of the classroom and watched her classmates perform military etiquette, revealing the true psychology of a 17-year-old girl. These are the warmest moments in the entire film. The cruel reality of life makes Ree unable to be cared for like her peers, but her inner desire is like a restless little deer. She even taught her brothers and sisters the skills of survival hand in hand, hoping to realize her own life-joining the army. But the reality is still cruel. Life has not only made you unpredictable, it has also made your dreams shattered. In the end, Ree could only choose to persistently search, even if it was his father's corpse. Personally, I feel that the impact of picking up my father’s arm in the cold water should be the strongest. Coupled with the noise of the chainsaw and the splashing water, it will cause a lot of discomfort to the viewer’s heart, but it is also positive. It was this scene that brought back a life that had never been restored. Although the future is still very dim, at least, younger brothers and sisters don’t need to be fostered. They have kind neighbors and caring relatives and friends, and more importantly, they have a home. Ironically, all these changes were brought about by a pair of cold arms on his father's body.

The film exposes the relatively backward and dark side of the United States to the audience, the lack of affection between people, and the government's indifference to helpless people. The cold and dark pictures of the whole film also rendered this atmosphere to the extreme. The real environmental sound and beautiful soundtrack make up for the boringness of the original few lines, which is very suitable for friends who like documentaries. The most important thing is that the film can calm people down, approach Ree gently, and empathize with the heart.

In the end, Jennifer Lawrence really deserves to be the best actress in the Oscar, basically her acting skills propped up the whole film.

  • Gail: [after asking her husband to let her use his truck] He said no.

Ree: Did you tell him I'd spring for gas?

Gail: I told him. He still won't.

    Ree: Why not?

Gail: He never says why not to me, Ree, he just says no.

Ree: Man, it's so sad to hear you say he won't let you do somethin' and then you *don't* do it.

Gail: It's different once you're married.

Ree: It really must be. 'Cause you ain't never used to eat no shit.

  • Ree: He might be hangin' around with Little Arthur and them. You think?

Teardrop: You don't wanna go around Little Arthur's askin' them people about anything they ain't offered to talk about. That's a real good way to end up et by hogs... or wishin' you was.
