Pure and hopeless machine heart

The plot of this sci-fi animation is a bit sketchy in my opinion, but the cool scenes and the use of movie blockbusters, as well as the unique shadows, round characters, are very expressive, plus Tezuka The collaboration between Zhi Zong and Otomo Keyang is indeed worth seeing.

The grand metropolis like the Babel Tower, where humans and robots cohabitate, is divided into many areas. The social form has developed into a human political party organization that specializes in dealing with out-of-control and trespassing robots, and an organization that fights for the rights of robots. There are even revolutionaries who are dissatisfied with the people at the bottom who have been robbed of their jobs by robots. Kenichi, a little boy who came here with his uncle by chance, met the "born" robot Tima with the shape of a little girl, but he didn't know that "she" was a secret weapon made by a big man with ulterior motives.

Chasing between the solemn and glorious or decaying punk buildings, the life of different levels of prosperity or filth is in stark contrast, all kinds of robots are serving the operation of human society, a lot of tiring and heavy work is replaced by robots, purely service nature Jobs such as waiters, traffic commanders and even police helpers are also performed by robots. If robots have rights, all they have is the right to absolutely obey human beings, not harm human beings, and serve human beings.

What is a robot? Adding the word "person" will inevitably involve in-depth debates, such as Tima's painful question "Who am I", such as the unpredictable disaster of the police assistant robot Piro, which makes people sad, and there are more emergency service types Robots are dealt with because of human conspiracy. In the final analysis, robots are essentially codes and programs. Those symbols and numbers are not good or bad, but if human ambition is added, they will deteriorate.

You can put yourself in the shoes of the not-too-distant future in Metropolis. Most ordinary people may have the same attitude towards robots as Uncle Kenichi, like a loyal pet. It is completely obedient, never betrayed, and even puts the protection of human beings first. One, although it has no emotions, human beings have it. It is difficult to hate such robots for no reason. They are fully integrated into social life and bring a more convenient and comfortable experience. If humans are at ease with this, there will be no such thing. Many scientists, scholars, and authors question such a bright future. The heart of a machine composed of codes and programs is purely harmless and difficult to grasp. It is the complex heart of man.

Tima's child-like appearance, pure and bright image, like an angel, was stimulated and eroded and revealed a demon-like inner side, which made people feel terrifying. Just like Tima's cognition in the film, yes, humans can be regarded as the father and mother of robots, but they cannot really be regarded as parents by robots, because it goes against social ethics, but how to let robots live by themselves? Hopefully the day will never come when a robot can ask "Who am I".

Although the protagonist of this film is a child, the image is a bit naive, but the overall tone is dull, and the theme appears heavy under careful consideration. There are wars, killings, conspiracies, and the underlying darkness. Robots, on the contrary, show the good and the good, fearlessly protect human beings, and trust human beings kindly, which may be the intention of the maker. Even so, human beings cannot completely trust and deliver their hearts to robots. Just as they understand that money devours people’s hearts, they also understand that money is nothing but paper and innocent things. People are also afraid of being swallowed up and counterattacked by machines. A destroyed world is generally terrifying.

Right and wrong are unclear, good and bad cause and effect are intertwined, and the Babel Tower will eventually collapse and fall, and "Metropolis" does not have a bright and ambitious future. Maybe only a simple and decisive child like Kenichi can save the machine from defeat and save the world, but this is really just an absolutely ideal idea, which only exists in comics and movies.

In reality, the emergence of smart phones has been deeply debated, but it has greatly changed all aspects of social life. The era of intelligent robots, and even the era of artificial intelligence, will probably be the same. Affect the world. Whether it will create the Tongtian Tower or destroy it is completely unknown, there is only hope, only belief.

(8/10) I gave this film a bad review eight years ago. Maybe time and experience can really slowly change people's views, and now I don't have the same bad impression of this film as it used to be. It should be said that as a work in 2001, the picture of this animation is still very luxurious, but the plot does progress too fast, and although the story structure of the animated version follows Tezuka's original work, the meaning is not the same. It is also the protagonist who finally becomes a big BOSS. The original manga is that the protagonist is forced by the villains from a good guy to a bad guy, and the animation version is a robot without emotions that has a little bit of emotion (this is less novel than the original). In general, the animated version enhances the rough scenes of the original, but does not sublimate the idea of the original, which is its regret. In terms of character creation, the addition of Locke in the animated version is a bright spot, and the limelight completely overshadowed Kenichi (Locke often appears in Tezuka's works, and is basically the second male villain of ten thousand years); the heroine Tima is also a wonderful character, but the role is not as good as The corresponding comic character Mickey is prominent (the protagonist of the comic version did not reconcile with Kenichi at the end, and Tezuka's works are often so cold.)

It's a classic and exquisite film in every way, but it's really boring. Even a person like me who can really tolerate smokiness feels bored. . .
