I guessed the beginning, but didn't think about the ending.
The question is not whether the deceived deserves sympathy or remorse, but why does he fall into the deception step by step?
There are too many wonderful details in the film to reflect on. This is not just the process of Oldman being deceived, but also the process of being deceived by watching the movie (well, I don’t know if you have penetrated the truth, anyway, I was deceived. ). Whether it's this movie or other movies, I have to admit that I can't be 120% full of energy when watching movies, so I can't grasp every hidden detail, and I always live up to my intentions Good director and screenwriter. But this time, I've been thoroughly played, and I'm more remorseful—every good movie deserves our attention.
Because, I have naturally assumed the role of Oldman, in a miracle like adventure and redemption, to savor the beauty and admire the youth, I even forgot that he was a man in the passage of time. Such a greedy, greedy and self-proclaimed person - at the beginning of the film, when you go to a restaurant to eat, you have to dominate a large table by yourself, dye your hair and refuse to blow birthday candles to refuse to grow old, and never watch "friend" Billy Paintings and it is easy to get angry with him, and countless pairs of gloves isolate the "dirt" of others. Others are hell, I am afraid that is the creed of this old gentleman, no one, no woman, can open his closed heart.
And how did the scam begin?
The starting point is antiques, taking advantage of Oldman's love of money.
But the driving force was Claire, and it was a 4/4 process.
1/4, her charm does not come from cleverness or beauty, but from mystery and sensitivity. She makes Oldman feel that she is world-weary and fearful. Isn't this vaguely a female version of Oldman? But especially. Along with the lame housekeeper's suggestion, Oldman sees this as a condition attributable to agoraphobia, a fragile artistry that should be redeemed. Oldman, in the midst of erratic and jittery phone calls, was confident that he was needed by this mysterious woman. Like the audience, like all men, he wanted to see the face behind that wall.
2/4, her beauty and further attracted Oldman's affection, the peeping behind the marble statue was so careful and hearty, when she said coquettishly on the other end of the phone "I didn't fall in love with Oldman" , This arrogant and selfish old man must be angry, and his desire to conquer has increased by three points before facing such a stunner.
3/4, her disappearance made Oldman really realize how much he cared about her, how anxious, how helpless, like a child who lost a treasure. The wonderful night that followed, the sense of art and beauty built up in Oldman's heart is even more self-evident. He doesn't want to leave her anymore.
On 4/4, she rescued Oldman who fell in a pool of blood in the rainy night (some people think that Oldman was beaten here by a group of liars. Getting out of that iron gate is equivalent to declaring: I can finally give up my fears for you. At this point, Oldman really fell in love with her, fell in love with this fake that blinded him, why? Because Claire, the Claire Oldman is willing to believe, is really his mirror image: not only sensitive and fearful of the world, but also cold and arrogant; not only moody, but also a virgin at heart. Oldman has collected so many portrait oil paintings of women, in order to enjoy the gaze and desire of a woman who has never really enjoyed it in half his life. The beauty, a melancholy tenderness, irresistible.
In fact, scams are not inevitable.
"There is a dwarf hidden under the base of that robot".
Yes, the real dwarf Claire, the real one, she is the master of all wealth and wisdom, she is humorous and insightful, why did Oldman ignore her existence 9 times? Because of her mediocre appearance? Or is it because you are overconfident? Or is it because there is only that villa in sight, that Claire? All of these are possible, and they are all worthy of reflection by people who are running wildly and regardless of left and right, worthy of reflection by all great artists, and worthy of reflection by audiences, such as me. A lot of times, it's not the movie that deceives you, it's that you never really loved the movie. What you pursue is only excitement and romance, and you forget that there are beautiful people and stories in any grain of sand, and you selectively close your eyes.
Also, Billy isn't actually that bad. He once kindly reminded Oldman before his final fall: "Any piece of work may be a fake, and emotions may also be fakes" (the effect seems to be this). But Oldman just smiled. Because in his heart, such an old man with no artistic temperament may not know how to appreciate antiques, let alone human feelings. But what really didn't understand was Oldman himself. Over the years, even if Oldman had seriously appreciated and respected Billy's painting once, he might have been able to discover the ballerina, and he might have been able to read the mystery at the beginning. Too bad he didn't, he never cherished Billy. He was just relying on his self-confidence and desire to conquer, anxious to win the heart of a woman, he deceived himself and lost his composure and calmness for so many years. He doesn't even care about the authenticity of those countless gears.
There are two other minor issues.
First, why is the video called the best bid? I think it has something to do with a sentence in the film: "Love is also a bid, you don't know if you're giving her the best". Putting aside his arrogance and indifference, Oldman offered the only bid in his life and the last bid in his auction career. In the past, he always relied on calling the real product a fake, and won the Liancheng treasure with countless best bids, but what about this time? is the best? Or the worst? I still think it is the best, because this is the only time he is brave in love. Although it is a fake, "the counterfeiter can't help but leave traces of the real in the fake to express the sensitivity of art". When false is true, true is false. Oldman finally recalled the happiness he had with Claire, and gave up calling the police, and even went to the cafe in Prague to quietly wait for Claire's return. Isn't this the truest feeling? Before leaving, Claire hugged him and said to him: "No matter what happens to us in the future, you have to believe that my feelings for you are true". Maybe, that feeling is real. He finally offers to wait till long night falls, till the end ends all.
Second, why did the liar group finally send Oldman's robot, and why the most important imagery of the film is gears and clockwork. I think it's a profound irony and reflection - Oldman's old, stereotyped, mechanical life. He was originally the stiffest and loneliest gear, unwilling to run in with any other gear. But Claire pushed him to open his heart from the opposite side. He was eager to get close to Claire's equally lonely gear and wanted to spin together, but he failed. That robot is a sophisticated and massive construct, the assembly and completion of the deception. What exactly is madness? What is sincerity? All the question marks were swallowed up by the machine, and then the machine continued to swing mechanically. The robot is ugly, but it has a subtle inner; just like Claire's appearance is so weird and out of place, but her heart is so sincere and pure--in fact, it's not so much the fake being played. Claire, rather the real dwarf Claire and Oldman himself.
I believe that Oldman fell in love with his own shadow, from the loneliness of one person to the madness of two people, and finally to the loneliness of one person. It seemed that he had been tricked into being alone, but his loneliness had been sublimated. It used to be that he had no one to share the table with, but now, even if there is still no one to share the table, at least he has waiting and tenderness in his heart. Will Claire, the lover who was separated from his body and spirit, return?
I don't think this issue is so important anymore, what do you think?
