Afghanistan, also known as the burial ground of empires, Britain, the Soviet Union, and the United States, the wars launched by each of the prosperous empires in Afghanistan did not get any advantage, and even led to the disintegration of their own countries!
You can quickly capture the capital of Afghanistan, but you can't capture the entire territory of 80% of the country's mountainous area! The guerrillas are scattered in the mountains, giving you strength but nowhere to use it!
A detail in the battle in the movie shows the guerrillas' superiority in the mountains. When they could not beat the Soviet army temporarily, they jumped into the artificially built caves one by one and quickly escaped! This is probably the combination of the Afghan version of "the enemy advances and we retreat, and the enemy retreats and we advance" and "cave warfare"!
Another scene is a scene that appears in almost all "people's wars". When soldiers face women and children, they think there is no danger, but they are shot black after turning around!
The film does not subjectively lay out the right and wrong of the war, but focuses more on the changes in the mental state and the life of the military when the soldiers transform from ordinary people to soldiers!
The portrayal of the cruelty of war is average. It may also be that I have watched too many movies of the same type and I don't feel it anymore! A decent war movie, three and a half stars is more appropriate!
