contradiction

At the end of this film, I felt extremely disappointed. That beautiful song, that happy kiss, and those intoxicating smiles poured cold water on my heart in the end.
"Growing old with you" is too simple and fast. Robbie and Linda's childhood sweetheart, Loren and Julia's four-year relationship broke and shattered in an instant, and they were both at the most critical moment of marriage. Then Linda and Robbie walked directly into the marriage hall with the support and help of everyone! I was not touched by their happy ending. Perhaps I had too few romantic cells, or I was too naive. I have always believed that love is not that easy to break, especially the emotions that have been together for many years. I really can't accept that Robbie immediately developed a deep love for Linda after he sang the heartbreaking song after breaking up with Linda, so is he really infatuated or fake? You know, when he sang that song, even the most realistic wedding singer who grabbed jobs with Robbie hid behind the curtain and said he was crazy. This feeling can really disappear completely in such a short period of time, can this pain be completely healed in such a short period of time? And Linda married Robbie on the day she was supposed to marry Loren. Wouldn't it be too shocking? But maybe this is the movie, this is the perfect romantic comedy. Just from another angle, when I paid attention to the supporting roles, I found that the reality was still there.
What I like most to see is that wrinkled, skinny grandmother Lucy, she is so cute! Take singing lessons, practice dumbbells, sing hip-hop, talk about her premarital sex, make fun of Robbie...every time her appearance makes me so happy and happy. Because of her cheerfulness and liveliness, because of her enthusiasm and loveliness, because of her specific infatuation. After 50 years of marriage, she is so serious about using meatballs to ask Robbie to teach her to sing so that she can sing on her 50th wedding anniversary, just to let her wife know that she is still like this Love him deeply. This is what moved me the most in the whole film. Eternal and loyal love is fully interpreted in the affectionate singing, beautiful lyrics, and affectionate hand in hand, making people intoxicated.
The director probably tried his best to create the romantic beauty of eternal pure love. But at the beginning and the end, there is a puzzling contradiction: Is love as vulnerable as a tulle or can it be eternal and beautiful?

  • Robbie: Thank you.

    Jimmie Moore: No, thank you!

    Robbie: For what?

Jimmie Moore: For quitting... or, should I thank Linda?

Jimmie Moore: [nudges him] My business has tripled.

Julia: Well, you've just inspired me to hire a DJ. So thank you.

Jimmie Moore: Well, good luck trying to find a DJ who can move and shake like THIS.

[wriggles back and foth like a snake slithering]

  • Petey: [dressed as the Slasher] I made this for you, Uncle Robbie.

Robbie: [takes it] Aw, thanks, Freddy Kruger.

Robbie: [sees it's the wedding photo of himself and Linda, who he's drawn red devil's horns on] That's not nice... Very creative, though.
